She's allowed an opinion. Or does that only apply if she was talking about gays?

Ammi 15-06-2019 06:07 AM

...don’t know what’s worse really...that she said it or that it was a pre-recorded show and it was left in...that also carries a very heavy weight of accountability I would say...

i think all people who make sick jokes should be hung, drawn and quartered ... that will teach them

joeysteele 15-06-2019 07:41 AM

Well, its not a police matter, they aren't even going to investigate it.
It's a controversial comedy based programme where controversy is welcomed.

She stated immediately she said it, that it was a joke.
A very sick one in my own view.

Hardly though, the crime if the century.

I don't find Jo Brand funny, although on Countdown, when she makes up rubbish words, I have smiled at that.

A pre recorded programme as Ammi and others have said, which the BBC saw no harm at all in broadcasting.
The problem maybe lies with the BBC than anyone or anything else then.

While I abhor any inference to any physical attacking of politicians, particularly in the current climate.
(I abhor any physical attacks on anyone however.).

Nigel Farage making his mouth go on this, after all the hate filled speeches he makes from his bigotry and prejudices, is hard to find any sympathy for.

I'll take possibly once a sick uncalled for joke from Brand anytime over the hateful deep rooted divisiveness Farage brings to politics.

The Police have updated
and said they are not taking this further.

You wouldn't be saying this if it was about the opposition instead.

Her comments were terrible as was the comedy but the outrage is mostly hypocritical considering most of it is coming from the right wing who so often jump to the defense of bigots and morons. Telling someone they are too ugly to rape is just a funny joke but joking about an acid attack on Farage Christ is TOO FAR.

Selective outrage. If you defended the former, you can't take issue with the later.

arista 15-06-2019 03:42 PM

She is back on Radio 4 next week

Really? You want freedom of speech punishable by death?

GoldHeart 15-06-2019 04:33 PM

There's a lot of tasteless jokes out there but its funny how those get ignored .

The hypocrisy in all this is if Jeremy Corbyn was the butt of the acid joke then Farage himself would be laughing like a school kid high on fizzy pop  .

I agree, and not just Farage would be GoldHeart.

Exactly Joey
They'd find it funny when it's not at their expense

Beso 15-06-2019 08:38 PM

But what would corbyns reaction to it be?

joeysteele 15-06-2019 10:18 PM

I'm no fan of Corbyn, he does however lead the Party I support.
What he would say, (I would expect anyway from watching and listening to him), as to this said about himself by Brand, or about anyone else.
That it was unacceptable and wrong is what I feel sure he'd say.

Beso 16-06-2019 07:44 AM

I guess she's lucky she wasn't a love island contestant.
