Beirut: Riot police fire tear gas at protesters as anger grows over port explosion...
Tear gas has been fired in Beirut as people protesting against the government's handling of this week's explosion tried to reach the parliament building. Riot police took action as about 5,000 people gathered in the central Martyrs' Square and attempted to break through a barrier. "The people want the fall of the regime," protesters chanted, adding: "Leave, you are all killers." Makeshift gallows and nooses have been set up. Sky News correspondent Alex Rossi, who is there, said residents have been "enormously angry" since the explosion happened, adding: "People here want to - metaphorically at least - hang their political class." ...rest of the article... https://news.sky.com/story/beirut-ri...osion-12045227 |

Beirut explosion: Lebanon PM to resign within hours - as entire government steps down...
Lebanon's Prime Minister Hassan Diab is set to resign within hours after the entire government stepped down. Anti-government protesters had demanded political change after an explosion in Beirut killed more than 160 people and injured around 6,000 last week. Lebanon's health minister Hamad Hassan confirmed the government had resigned as he spoke to reporters after a cabinet meeting on Monday. The cabinet has been under increasing pressure after several ministers quit or expressed their intention to step down in recent days. Mr Hamad said: "The whole government resigned." https://news.sky.com/story/beirut-ex...-down-12046586 |
