Blues legends Essien and Ivanović are being asked how impressed they were with their former club's performance in the competition last season, along with their prospects for this term.

Ivanovic: I was really impressed with how Chelsea won the trophy. After a long period of time, Chelsea deserved the trophy again.

Ivanović, who had a spell with Zenit after departing Chelsea, scored the very first goal in the Saint Petersburg Stadium, where the 2022 UEFA Champions League final will be held.

Essien: I believe they [Chelsea] can do back-to-back wins for the club. It would be a very big achievement but they have a big squad, and with Lukaku back they are well prepared.

UEFA deputy general secretary Giorgio Marchetti is now going through the procedure of the draw, along with welcoming UEFA Champions League new boys Sheriff.

yes good on this Moldovan team to have made this far to 6 high quality group matches at the highest european football level :clap1:

Nicky91 26-08-2021 04:33 PM

The teams will be selected from four seeding pots.

Pot 1 consists of holders Chelsea, UEFA Europa League winners Villarreal and the champions of the six highest-ranked nations who did not qualify via one of the 2020/21 titles; Pots 2 to 4 were determined by the club coefficient rankings.

No team will be drawn into a group along with a side from their own association.

The top two teams in each section advance to the round of 16, whilst those finishing third in each group transfer into the UEFA Europa League knockout stage, where they will face the UEFA Europa League group runners-up for spots in the last 16.

recapping these groups for me personally

Group A; goodbye Club Brugge  but all 3 of Man City, PSG and Leipzig are very strong, gonna be a tough one here

GroupB; poule of death yes, i'd say Atletico and Liverpool are frontrunners to survive the group, but Milan could be in contention for that 3rd place, i don't estimate Porto as invincible tbh

GroupC; Lucky Ajax lol, Dortmund might win the group but Ajax is certainly a contender for 2nd or 3rd place here, Besiktas by far the weakest link

GroupD; top teams like Inter Milan, Real Madrid coming to Moldova wow just wow, i mean Sheriff should enjoy their debut at highest level for sure but they won't have any real chances, i'd say Inter, Real for top two and Shakhtar to europa league

GroupE; ouch to imagine this is the group PSV could've been in thankfully they aren't, the Bayern v Barcelona games could be enjoyable to watch i think

GroupF; tricky one for Manchester United, i mean Villarreal the recent europa league winners, Atalanta a new rising little giant, and Young Boys a unknown swiss dark horse, on paper maybe not the strongest looking but i do think the United fans should not be overconfident at all about this draw either

GroupG; lovely group this one, Lille reigning french champions, Sevilla one i never underestimate after their many europa league/uefa cup wins, Salzburg and Wolfsburg are decent as well, another tricky one like F

GroupH; nice for Malmo, they got legendary teams like Juventus, Chelsea visiting them, Zenit well i like this russian team tbh, they got great tactics somehow, normally i'd say Juventus a obvious frontrunner but you never know, Chelsea as title holders should easily advance on paper either, but you don't know what Malmo can do from this underdog position, and Zenit are fierce especially at home

Group A; interesting one, most seem relatively small on paper, so we might get a surprise here, fun for variety we got teams from finland and armenia facing each other in a group stage rather than a qualifying round :fan:

Group B; good chances for Gent :eyes: and curious what more Flora can do now

Group C; AS Roma against 3 weaker by far, they are soooo a frontrunner in this league

Group D; decent draw for AZ, CFR Cluj is either hit or miss results wise so we'll have to wait and see what form they are in

Group E; ouch Feyenoord, i reckon Union Berlin is the toughest here, Slavia was quite bad in their EL playoff, Maccabi Haifa well they are okayish

Group F; Come On Red Imps, make Gibraltar even prouder and cause more upsets, seriously Copenhagen has a group win chance here

Group G; Tottenham has a decent draw, but of course i root for Vitesse with my dutch blood, NK Mura is the underdog here, and surprises can happen if other teams underestimate you

GroupH; Basel good draw, Qarabag or Kairat could be second one going through here i reckon

GroupA; Lyon and Rangers i reckon as top two but you never know, third place could go to Sparta Prague but maybe Brondby will surprise many

GroupB; normally speaking Monaco, Sociedad are strongest two, however weird things happen more than before in todays football, maybe PSV can win from either Monaco or Sociedad, but good chances for third place at least

GroupC; Napoli, Leicester should be frontrunners here, however you cannot say anything right now on paper speaking

GroupD; Olympiakos at home is a tough one for sure but i also find Frankfurt and Fenerbahce quite good, those as top 3 i think

GroupE; no comment, other than a nervewrecking group this one is

GroupF; Braga should be the favourite league wise, but Red Star is not bad as well, Midtjylland is weak as i saw against PSV in CL qualifyings

GroupG; Celtic has a tough draw here, Leverkusen is a good club, Betis is a nice middle tier of La Liga which on its own is amazing, Ferencvaros is lucky to have made it into a group stage at least, and they weren't bad at all in their CL playoff vs Young Boys i thought

GroupH; i never underestimate Dinamo Zagreb, their losses against Sheriff was pure tactics i feel to get into EL more chances to win points for croatian football cuz normally they are in great form, Genk are 50/50 either very good or just rubbish, West Ham should be favourite here in terms of league wise level but you never know, Rapid Wien i adore great club with lovely history and curious how they are looking like now

Nicky91 27-08-2021 01:45 PM

Fortuna Line up

Rienstra's eredivisie comeback i think, and Flemming instead of Hansson in terms of changes from last match vs Twente

as for left back position instead of Cox i think Ferati for now (but when Pinto has had week of training with the club behind him i think they can switch few things around, and when Tirpan joins a matter of time when i think)

Toshio Lake the matchwinner against Twente has signed a new contract, and also third goalkeeper (from own youth) Ruben van Kouwen signed his pro contract now

Nicky91 27-08-2021 04:30 PM

some changes to europa league and also the rules for conference league

1st place of each group in EL advance to round of 16, 2nd places advance to a inbetween round of EL vs third places from CL

3rd place of EL advances to inbetween round of conference league where they'll face no.2 places from conference league, 1st from conference league advance to round of 16

Nicky91 28-08-2021 07:10 AM

Fortuna - RKC 2-2

1-0 Baghdadi (Seuntjens) (23)

1-1 Kramer (Odgaard) (38)

1-2 Kramer (Odgaard) (55)

2-2 Seuntjens (Tekie) (68)

my personal scores for Fortuna team

Van Osch 9.0

Rota 9.5

Angha 8.5

Janssen 9.0

Ferati 7.5

Tekie 9.5

Flemming 9.0

Duarte 7.5

Hansson 7.5

Seuntjens 10

Baghdadi 9.5

subs

Rienstra 10 already only cuz #OurCaptainisBack, played quite decently for someone who hasn't been training last few months, glad he got the green light from medical team

Lake 8.0 not a matchwinner now but alright he's still young no need to have huge expectations because of one game

RKC i also found pretty good, and for a neutral viewer this game was overall very entertaining, enjoyable

AND pre-match, we have him back, Mickael Tirpan :clap1: :clap1:

they gave us clues all along
