Tbh, it's harder without it.

I think it just forces you to use letters that have gone green/yellow and green ones in their place - but I can't think why anyone wouldn't already do that? Surely a waste of a guess if it couldn't be the word...

Benefit of not doing hard mode is just that you can eliminate or confirm more letters and especially the vowels early on. I was always doing 'arise' and then 'pouty' as my first two words so I could get all the vowels in there and normally have a good idea of what it'd be on my third guess until I got called out on the family WhatsApp for playing on 'easy mode' :omgno:

MTVN 17-01-2022 08:09 AM

I got it third guess today but had all but one letter correct on my second guess which would have been a record :fist:

AnnieK 17-01-2022 08:14 AM

5th today....

Niamh. 17-01-2022 09:08 AM

4 today

Calderyon 17-01-2022 09:39 AM

More difficult in easy mode imo.

Hard mode makes thing easier tbh.

MTVN 17-01-2022 10:18 AM

I mean you can still go by the same rules of hard mode in easy mode if you choose so shouldn't make it any easier switching to hard lol

James 17-01-2022 10:48 AM

I got it in 4 today, thought I had it in 3.

Hard mode wouldn't have made a difference today.

Yeah I'll switch to hard mode tomorrow, it's how I was playing anyway, makes the most sense

Pro tips I've come up with:

The most common letter in English is E. A is also up there.

Half of the words in English end with the letters E, T, D or S

The most common starting letter is T

My conclusion is that if you start with "TEARS" you cover a tonne of these.

user104658 17-01-2022 12:45 PM

My other go-to starting words are "ADIEU" and "PIOUS"

I've been starting with Argue the last couple of days for no apparent reason but I like it

You certainly can, but you shouldn't. If you want it to be correct.

Easy mode: More flexible and lenient, but more chance to make a mistake, because of it. (More choices -> potentially more chance of a mistake to be made)

Hard mode: Stricter and less lenient, but less of chance to make a mistake due to it forcing you to use clues that are revealed. (Less choices -> potentially less of a chance to make a mistake)

Calderyon 17-01-2022 10:00 PM

Both modes are good though.

AnnieK 18-01-2022 06:15 AM

5th again today

Niamh. 18-01-2022 06:39 AM

5 on hard mode
