@Zizu

eurovision is no longer the cheesefest show it once was, perfect representations of each nation their musical culture

but yeah go off supporting dull Olly, while i'm slaying with my top 2 faves at the moment (Ukraine, Norway)

It is Zizu.

I love it, have from first hearing it and I haven't been too keen on UK entries in recent years.

However I really rate Olly highly too.
As a songwriter, singer, performer and actor.
So multi talented.

There isn't an end, there isn't a start
I don't wanna stop, I can't go too far
There isn't an end, there isn't a start
I don't wanna stop, I can't go too far
There isn't an end, there isn't a start
I don't wanna stop, I can't go too far
There isn't an end, there isn't

So won't you make me dizzy from your kisses? (Oh)
Will you take my hand and spin me
'Round and 'round until the moment never ends?
(Until the moment never ends)
Uh, make me dizzy from your kisses
Will you take my hand and spin me? (Take my hand)
Take me back to the beginning again (again, again)

:laugh2:

I don’t recall him ever claiming to be a poet …

Aren’t you a fan of David Bowie .. his lyrics were bonkers

David Bowie had wonderful lyrics in his work though

Space Oddity, Life On Mars, Spaceman, Heroes are such gems

Zizu 07-03-2024 05:13 PM

David Bowie

One of his best songs was the marvellous Life on Mars ..

I’ll just leave this here

The utter irony that you should use that line as an example of poor lyrics rather explains why you like the complete trash UK entry and its total lack of of talent and lyrical complexity

you could not make it up..

joeysteele 07-03-2024 06:22 PM

There's all kinds of music and I like the full wide variety of it.
Except for rap.

I love Olly Alexander's song Dizzy for Eurovision, I think it fits Eurovision perfectly.
Then I've followed his career all through with Years and Years and his solo work.

David Bowie I have to say was absolutely a brilliant songwriter and performer.
A genius of music.
My favourite of him from loads of favourites of him is 'Heroes'.

One of my Brother's has a vid of the Live Aid concert.
Where he sang Heroes.
Awesome, truly awesome.

I normally agree with most of your comments LT but maybe you are too blinkered with your views on Olly Alexander’s music

What are your views on the Pet Shop Boys ?

Roisin O'Connor from The Independent wrote that "Dizzy is a dance anthem that takes its cues from the Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, and Bronski Beat – whisked up with the ripe diet of Nineties cheese-pop that Alexander grew up on".[12] Laura Snapes from The Guardian stated that the chorus echoes that of the 1987 single "It's a Sin" by the Pet Shop Boys, while also making comparisons to Pete Burns single "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)". They concluded that "Dizzy isn’t a bad song – it’s perfectly fine – but beyond its very literal, nauseatingly topsy-turvy video, it’s far too safe to leave anyone reeling".[13]

Writing for The Telegraph, Neil McCormick wrote "Dizzy is an interesting modern electronic dance pop song, a blend of Balearic beats and sugary sentiments delivering upbeat sentiments with a minor chord melodic tension".[14] While writing for Clash, Robin Murray described "it's as a full-blown extravaganza. Olly lives and breathes every word, with the ultra-catchy dose of future-facing pop digitalism leaning on his fantastic vocals.[18]

In a review for The Times, Will Hodgkinson described it as a "super-catchy and hi-energy disco smash that has real innovation in its burbling production”. It also has “pleasingly nostalgic shades of classic Eighties synth-pop: Erasure, Soft Cell and, yes, the Pet Shop Boys”. He referred to it as "the best Eurovision entry we've had in years".[15] In a review for PinkNews, Marcus Wratten said "Dizzy is one of the better songs the UK has sent to the contest in recent years". They further added "It’s pulsating pop that is both simple yet effective. The fizzy ‘80s synths of the Pet Shop Boys are a clear influence, but with a touch of Steps’ playfulness, and – dare we say it – a hint of Aqua, too. That’s all to say that “Dizzy” is pop serving its primary purpose; it’s catchy and the hook has sticking power".[19]

Writing for BBC News, Mark Savage dubbed the song "a sleek, streamlined slice of modern pop" with an "instantly memorable" hook, but criticised the strength of the song, adding: "If there's a criticism, it's that the song could go harder. Instead of building to a climax, that final chorus is too polite"

i am more embarrassed to be dutch tbh

AVROTROS are more of a mess than the BBC

using Joost as a puppet to win sympathy support again from the public, after last years enormous flop with Mia & Dion, and negative media backlash

my last place is my nation this year, insincere choice of entry

so yeah lucky for Olly he isn't my last place :)

I'm finding far more like it than dislike it.

Plus too, of people I know, a number of them who don't like it,don't like Eurovision or Europop anyhow.

So no way does 'everyone' think it crap ( we've had far more entries that could have been termed that but it's not valid for "Dizzy '.)

It probably won't win, it maybe even won't do well, it's not rocket science to say ANY UK entry won't do well at Eurovision.
It's a usually very easy and standard prediction.

However I hope it does.
I also know Olly will give his all to it and do.his very best, with what I consider one of the UKs best entries in recent years.

SuRie was one of the UK's best entries in recent years, how she also kept going despite the stage invader, respect from me :douf:
