amazing opening ceremony, best opening ceremony of all time

:worship: :worship:

also that hug between Zidane and Nadal  (Rafa is a long time Real Madrid fan)

great speech by the french olympic committee president too, as well as by our greatest yet IOC boss Thomas Bach, and thankfully Macron didn't talk too much

also a very refreshing take on the parade of nations, in the alphabetical order of french language

GaGa can sing in french  thought that was a fun performance

the intro love the vibes of Mission Impossible, Indiana Jones, Phantom of the Opera

the acrobatic guy on the rooftops, sensational

also the balloon theme throughout the evening was a lovely tribute to Paris 1924 back when that was still a sporting event

and to top it off, Queen Celine Dion :amazed: :flutter: i had goosebumps, Celine wuz ill, well girl didn't lose her simply stunning perfect vocals :worship: queen ate on that eiffel tower

and yes Zizu, Aya Nakamura is one of France's biggest music stars, most streamed artist , even more than Slimane or Barbara Pravi, i thought that collab of her and the soldiers was good fun and a surprise take on Aznavour's Formidable classic tune

also King Willem-Alexander his moves when our delegation arrived :clap1: Go Willem, Go Willem :dance2:

They'd get murdered, ala Charlie Hebdo. We all know that.

I don't get why they felt the need to mock any religion at a sporting event, but I don't really care.

Well yeah - London had James Bond and the Queen. The Paris equivalent would be romance and surrendering.

as if that was real, Daniel Craig as 007 skydiving with Queen Lizzie

:joker: :joker: :joker:

i mean we could've also had Mylene Farmer but sis would've also been controversial if she said **** them all in her similar titled song ;)

I remember the '92 Alberville Winter Olympics opening or closing ceremony being very French and weird also.

This one in Paris all felt a bit cheap and small, to be honest. Mainly just dancers and models on a small platform on the river, although the weather didn't help.

Non of it had anything to do with sports or the Olympics by looks of it....it was just a cringefest of a joke, but it's always the same easy target religion they mock constantly.

They wouldn't dare imitate any other religion or faith , because they know a huge uproar would happen.

A US telecommunications company, C Spire, said it would be pulling its advertising around
the Olympic Games after being "shocked by the mockery of the Last Supper during the
opening ceremonies".

Cowards always go for the path of least resistance - ie Christianity

Can someone tell me what the connection was meant to be with the Olympic Games

You could say that for any of the opening ceremonies. What does James Bond got to do with the Olympics etc. but to answer your question, it was showing French history with the Greek history.

Well James Bond is a well known English Character and he was parachuting the Queen another well known English person into the games, they didn't mock or insult anyone

How is parodying an Italian masterpiece showing French and Greek history

Barry. 28-07-2024 06:11 PM

They didn’t mock anyone. Plus Nicky is a famous drag queen in France. I think that’s the real issues here is that she was a drag queen with queer people. It’s sad really

I'm gonna be fair and say France is proudly secular - visible are of religion are literally banned, so mocking religion could be said to be as French as are losing wars or eating disgusting food.

And they picked an easy target because they didn't want to get murdered.

Crimson Dynamo 28-07-2024 06:27 PM

The guy who created it is a 40 something gay man....

MTVN 28-07-2024 06:49 PM

I generally thought it was really impressive and ambitious but I didn't like the mocking of the Last Supper. Seems like a very inappropriate statement although I appreciate that France is very proud of it's secularism and all that
