I also heard that they will now have to shift stock at a reduced rate as they will have a backlog ...

James 29-04-2025 12:07 PM

I think the cyber attack angle is a red herring.

Nicky91 29-04-2025 12:54 PM

its not a cyber attack, that has been confirmed now

apparently it has to do with a sudden loss of power in the southwest of Spain, and more specifically with Solar panels, where the power went down, and some systems began to shutdown

Portugal and southern france were just unlucky to be on the same power grid

Cherie 29-04-2025 01:08 PM

We continue to have these incidents where power goes out whether via weather related incidents or glitches or as happened recently with that upgrade that went wrong, yet some people will still convince you that you don't need cash...madness

it's good to take precautionary measures i guess, but let's just not spread too much fear among the public

but honestly our energy providers (like in my nation are doing) need to regularly double check if everything is still looking okay, like no signs of fatigue on any of the cables, or to double check for weak spots anywhere

Nicky91 29-04-2025 01:15 PM

i already feel for Prime Minister Sanchez at this point, i mean having to pay back an entire nation as compensation for the blackout, that's gonna be a financial blow to them i reckon

multiple cyber attacks happen daily in the UK let alone anywhere else. That is a known fact. Just about any event could be cyber attack related

It was probably 25 on the coast where they measure for my city but it was definitely hotter here.

All good, it's very humid and warm but we dressed light and got out as usual, it's like nothing ever happened :hee:

yes facts tend to trump anecdotal evidence from unengaged members of the public

its kind of why science exists and meteorologists using official calibrated equipment is used rather than say a dashboard temp from a fiat 500 sat in the midday sun

25.5 °C was the max temp achieved in Portugal today at Vila Real Airport (550m)

most of the country ranged between 17 and 22 C

But thanks for playing

Well you're wrong, thermometers can't measure everywhere at once and there isn't one collecting data inland from the coast in my city  It was definitely hotter than 25º and there can obviously be errors in the forecast because you said it was going to be 17º. Portuguese people find 25º cold, it was sweltering.

The sad reality is because we have become so dependent on a grid and digital services, it's inevitable it is our weakest point and so only a matter of time a country is attacked in this way... it's not fear mongering, it's common sense, and we need to all be prepared. Be kind to your neighbors and learn to grow your own food... we never know when we might need each other for a bit of power hookup or just finding out what local stores have food or ice in stock and whether they even have power...

I wouldn't be wasting my phone battery on us.
