You could say it's narrow-minded to blindly follow a religion because someone told you to, rather than question it and consider other life choices.
Is it ironic that religious extremists are the most hateful and arrogant people I've met? |
Sometimes talking to Theists is like talking to a brick wall.

The fact that you assume because someone told me to, is where you first go wrong. I know a lot o people who chose their religion. IN fact, it is safe to say that the person who was not born in a religion, and just picked it up, is the most enlightened. And even if you were born into it, all religions preach free will. You dont have to stay if you dont believe in it. If you read scriptures, you will know that most of them state that some people will never believe in god. As for religious extremists, there are always individuals who use scriptures to their advantage. Doesnt me the whole religion is wrong. ANd basically saying that anyone who believe in god is an idiot, you are proclaiming that the majority of the world are idiots. NOw thats quite a statement dont you think. ANd for the arrogance bit, imo, thats untrue. MOst religious people, who truly believe in their faaith, are the most humble, non materialistic people in the world. ANd arrogance is the last thing a real religious person would be. My point is, you can be atheist all you want, but I would be more sympathetic to you if you actually had an opne mind. BEcause, as it is, you dont. And if you think about it, you realise it. |

Why would opening our minds lead to god? |
Both atheists and religious people are closed minded. Its people who fall in the middle who are the only open minded ones.

You are living your life by the book. Time to broaden your horizons. Oh and I do believe the majority of the population are idiots, but that's not down to religion. |
^ Theres no free will in life.

In the Christian faith believing in Jesus and living your life according to his teaching will get you into heaven, not knowing of him and living a good life will also get you into heaven. In Islam there is heaven and hell (Jannah which has 8 levels and Jahannam has 5), both have different levels, after death and before the Judgement Day the person will stay at a level suitable for their beliefs and the way they live their lives. After Judgement you go to heaven or hell. If you think about it, both religions have a fair, just and loving God as their head, sending people to hell for not having had the opportunity to learn about Jesus/Allah isnt exactly fair or just is it?. Though some preachers/mullahs etc would have people believe otherwise. Thats mainly to get people into their particular belief system. |

All that is well and good in text. But it's not how the Priests and Imams preach it is it. Come on... |

Simply going to church/the mosque, and praying doesnt guarentee anyone entry into heaven. In both religions its how 'God' views how people have lived their lives. |
What are we even on a about? God, hell and heaven don't exist. They all prech shyte which a lot of people seem to eat up. If people are good people because they are religious fair enough. But I don't need a religion or a God to be a good person.
