No, he has realised as a non racist man that those types of jokes, as a parody act, effect the bank balance these days. All because of the new words made up by the new world order, that you are unconsciously part of.

"Racist man thinks his racism doesn't sell".

Ok.

How do you know he was racist, and wasn't just a shock-jock using risque "humour" ?

There's no irony with this 'comedian's' jokes, it's just straight up bigotry for bigots to guffaw at, and if that doesn't appeal to the owners of a venue then it's within their rights to deny them the stage.

But it's what they like to watch. Can't we just let them enjoy themselves? Why do we have to interfere in their lives and try to make their lives a little less pleasurable for them than it could be?

I hear what you're saying there, however, this is a public event, for the public. Nobody's own home comes into the equation. It's just a bit nasty to go around spoiling people's enjoyment, it's not very civilized. It's the opposite of inclusive, which I always thought you'd be against that?

Very well said by Sheffield's Liberal Democrats leader.

Spot on.

an evening of comedy (not my cup of tea but folks like it) is in no way comparable with an aggressive drunk ruining a party ffs

In this case it's more like someone showing up to a party they weren't invited to and closing it down.

I have no interest in seeing Roy Chubby Brown, so I'm going to cry about it and ruin it for everyone else not buy a ticket and not go. Which is the solution everyone who doesn't like him should take.

its virtue signalling and tells us so much more about the vanity of this this hard-left councilor than it ever does about the comedian

Beso 10-09-2021 06:16 PM

It's the same as the council banning that old bloke from peeing with a placard against the labour party round his neck.

Yeah, and Leigh Francis is also actually Amanda Holden's nan and Keith Lemon.

Of course it's relevant. One doesn't (shouldn't) assume Leigh Francis "means" the things he says when he's in character as Keith or Nan or whoever, so why would you think Royston Basey isn't just trying to make people laugh?

Roy Chubby Brown is a fictional character played by an actor. He has a script and rehearses and wears a flying helmet. In real life his name is Royston Vasey, not Chubby Brown.

What about Bernard Manning?.
Both chubby & Manning are similar in their 'material', I don't like either of them ,and never found anything they do funny.

Leigh Francis said he was Amanda Holden's nan, but he isn't.

So how do you know he's actually racist? Or do you think Francis really is Holden's nan ... After all, he did say he is!

Do you think everything ever comedian says is literally true?

The venue was fine to host him until the City Trust stepped in and called off the figurative party.

If people didn't bitch and moan, he could perform his show to a dozen or so people, and those who don't like him could just not attend.

OP states that Sheffield City Trust (seems to be independent non-profit org) operates the venue, it isn't owned by the city, and they didn't "step in". The Trust would be managed by a board of trustees who probably made the decision.

Whoever it's owned by, the gig was scheduled, until the City Trust decided it wasn't to be.

Good morning to you Toy Soldier, how are you this fine morning good sir?

They're not the best at being trustees, I don't think many people will trust them now.

The Sheffield City Trust is an independent 3rd sector organisation though, there seems to be some confusion that it's part of local council or government/publicly owned. It is not and thus "hmph we pays wrr Council taxes" has nothing to do with this at all. It's not tax-funded.

Alf 11-09-2021 08:50 AM

What we do know is that this labour MP cheers on the intolerance shown towards Royston and his fans.

She even ends by calling it a welcoming city. Yeah, right love. A welcoming city that doesn't welcome people is not really a welcoming city, is it?

She even uses the word "Cancel" she does that because she's very, very proud of the new cancel culture.
