My gripe is this...
I make a thread, then I'm offline for a bit, and when I come back, the thread is gone with no explanation.
If it was locked, then I'd be able to see that it was locked, and there'd be a post from admin explaining why.
But, this 'thread disappearing act' can be rather frustrating.
That's all.

To answer this... the type of topics that were deleted were ones asking about moderating decisions / members banned etc. Those type of topics quite often descend into arguing between different parties so it is not worth keeping them on the forum. If you want an answer it is better to u2u someone.
They weren't deleted immediately, they were closed for a while and then deleted.

The thread I was referring to was the one about arista saying 'one eyed Scottish Brown' over and over again.
I was politely asking him to stop.
There were no replies to it when I went offline. It was gone when I got back.
If it descended into an argument, then of course it would be locked, but I question if complete removal is necessary.
If you hadn't removed that thread, and others like it, and had locked it instead, maybe there wouldn't have been the 'spam' situation afterwards.
Some forums have a section where locked threads are kept for a month then deleted/removed to admin.
Maybe that's something worth thinking about as it lets members see where a thread went and the reasons why.
Most members appreciate that sometimes threads get heated and need locked, but this 'disappearing threads' thing is getting a bit old to be honest.
That's just my opinion, for what it's worth.
PS. I gather some people were banned after I logged out last night for spamming. Maybe that could have been avoided if questions were simply just answered.
