There was a tv programme ages ago about being buried alive. It looked at coffins that had scratch mark on the lids (showing that people had been buried alive) and clawed at the coffin. Horrible

Also, I think it is China (could be wrong) where they bury people and attach string to their hands which leads up through a tube to the gravestone and the other end is a attached to a bell (so if the person is buried alive) somebody will hear the bell.

Anyone seen the film Buried? It's quite new and that's about being buried alive, the whole film takes place in the guys coffin where he only has a lighter and a mobile phone to try and escape

I read something about that too, wasn't it where the saying came from 'doing the graveyard shift' in that after people were buried someone was on guard at the burial ground in case a bell rang so they could get the person out.

I am not afraid of death, although I am afraid of a long, painful death. Death is just another part of life. I believe that something of you goes on to something else. We are just energy, and Einstein said you cannot destroy energy. Whatever the human "soul" is, I firmly believe it goes on after your body dies, like getting out of a worn-out or damaged car. I also believe that if you are a bad person, there comes a time when, somehow, you have to pay for that.

Yes, death does scare me.
But more than me dying, I find the sheer thought of my loved ones dying scary and devastating.

Ithinkiloveyoutoo 16-11-2010 11:04 PM

^^I don't even want to think about the latter!!

Dying itself no but the manner in which I will die yes. I terrified of dying whilst drowning. More than anything, slowly feeling yourself go whilst trying to hold on to your breaths ee, that has to be worst then getting a bullet and dying at once. Or getting eaten by an animal. some of them take their time. first arm, then leg....ah all you can do is bleed cry and stare death in the face. No.:bawling: I don't want to die on a plane either. the long minutes where all you hear is screams around you, the engine dying, going down knowing this is it aaa :bawling:

BB_Eye 16-11-2010 11:25 PM

Wanting to die and not being able to scares me.

Don't worry we all will one day.
Apparently in the old days they lived to the 900 or something. Moses was supposedly 923. Don't know how I would cope. But those people that live to their hundreds should tell their secrets. I don't want to hear anything about fish and olive oil, we've all had that. :nono:

Ma, who knows. Maybe you're right.

Angus 17-11-2010 12:05 PM

I'm not afraid of death, but I do worry about HOW I will die. I don't do pain very well, so perhaps something instantaneous rather than long drawn out, so I have no time to worry or be afraid, or worse still, to be a burden on my family.

We all die, and it is because life is finite that it has any meaning at all. Imagine being immortal - it would be a living hell.

reece(: 28-10-2012 10:10 PM

The thought of myself or friends/family dying is quite scary, even moreso due to the fact each second passing we get closer to it. Just feels weird that one day we'll go and not exist anymore.

Marcus. 28-10-2012 10:11 PM

yes

King Gizzard 28-10-2012 10:12 PM

I probably already posted but I'm more scared/worried what my family would be like if I died then dying itself

Doogle 28-10-2012 10:14 PM

Not really when it concerns me, no. When my time is up I'm going to embrace it (or try) but when it comes to people I'm close to, it terrifies me.

Mystic Mock 28-10-2012 10:15 PM

It does scare me, but I think it scares everyone a little bit as you don't know what happens afterwards.

Alf 28-10-2012 10:22 PM

no way
just think of the lie in you can have
it's the living part that frightens me

Ammi 28-10-2012 11:05 PM

..not of death itself..but there would be certain ways to die which would be worse ..not that it's a choice...more a wish list thing...

SharkAttack 28-10-2012 11:28 PM

Dying before I can raise and teach my kids how to be independent scares me most.

Oh I would definitely like to see my Niece and Nephew grow up.

I think a lot of people spend too much time preoccupied with thoughts about the future and do not appreciate living in the moment. Death comes to us all but it's part of life and should not be feared too much.

Learn to cherish each day as if it was your last because one day it will be...!!!

I tend to agree with this ideal, except that it's ok to prepare for those who will be left in your wake, after your wake. I like to live in the present and toward the future a bit, and tend to not get overly weepy about the past. *But,* I don't want my best and loved ones to be ****ed for a long time because I wasn't there to help them(emotionally, or sometimes financially.)
Other than that, let's get this party started!!

I nearly died when i was 14 on a day out and i had about 20 minutes while i thought ok here we go its been fun but this is it and to be honest the only bit that scared me and probably the only thing that kept me alive and made me fight was the thought in my head about my mum and dad and how upset they would be.

Since then no other than the thought of upsetting other people death doesnt scare me at all i thought i was dead and the only thing that bothered me was how loved ones would feel.

Shaun 29-10-2012 06:54 AM

As others have said, I'd hate the pain it might inflict on family and friends (if it's a bit presumptuous to say so ), but I've come to the thought where I wouldn't really mind it so long as it wasn't prolonged and painful. I believe there's no life after death but I don't really mind the idea of that. The absence of being sounds quite relieving, I suppose.

Exactly. But Bob, we'd surely miss you here. No matter how crass or old-fashioned, there'd be a hole that even The Truth couldn't fill. http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/p...ial/shifty.gif Seriously though, it's good to have you around, don't go dyin anytime soon. http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/p...rential/28.gif

It does sound quite relieving. Turning off Shaun. :bawling: Yes, not a good thing. We've already lost Scott for the time being, let's not welcome bad thoughts. Lalalalalalalala!:devil: http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/p...miley-6116.gif

FGS, shall we list the ways?

[someone should form a new thread on this] Ways they'd like to die, ways other people die, ways.... already too morbid. Withdraw!

Marc 29-10-2012 07:31 AM

Nope I'm not scared of it.

I don't really believe in an afterlife either. It's gonna happen

Benjamin 29-10-2012 07:38 AM

A little sensitivity in this thread wouldn't go a miss. Just saying.

From whom? infact it doesnt matter but sometimes making light makes things easier.

Benjamin 29-10-2012 07:44 AM

I'd just rather we didn't joke about death and members, too close too home with Kerry.

AnnieK 29-10-2012 07:47 AM

Same as most people - death in itself doesn't scare me...what leads up to it scares me more...

The thought of losing other people is infinitely more terrifying to me.. I have had a few friends recently who have lost their parents and I just don't want to imagine it... Hopefully though my folks have good genes - I have a grandad still going strong and living in his own house at 95 and my nan is in her late 80s (and planning her 2nd wedding)...

Opening a thread asking people to talk about death then being touchy about the subject seems odd to me but as you wish.
