It often beat BB6, in ratings. And the final of the first series was watched by 5.9m.

The 2nd series in 2006 did worse, but it still got decent ratings around 3/4m. However, it was not strong enough to beat BB7 in ratings.

I think TV has changed a lot in ten years, especially with the rise of other shows such as TOWIE, MIC, and GS, which has put people off many other reality shows.

Big Brother is in essence the first real TOWIE/Geordie Shore of its time, now theres tons of competition.

Nah the truly original one has to be "The Real World" which launched in like 1992 or something.

BB is also nothing like TOWIE or MIC which are trust me 70% scripted.

Big Brother is absolutely nothing like either of those shows.

I just think TV has changed a lot in the last decade. Especially Reality TV.

Look at Love Island. That format back in 2005/2006 got around 3m.
Nine years later, and it can't even scrape 500k.

That format was probably more popular back in 2006, but now in 2015, having eight single twenty-somethings looking for love doesn't really sound appealing and is not really popular at the moment, as it's been done before to a even trashier extent.

Same with BB.
The show used to get around 4-5m, about ten years ago. Now it's just above 1m.

The format of Big Brother was fresh then, now it's the same old same old. So it's not really popular or original anymore.

I don't think BB is like TOWIE/MIC/GS. As BB is a much bigger show. But the ratings don't really match up with the status of the show.

Alternatively, they turned their back on the format that had previously been proven a success and went with a modified format that has pissed the fans of the show off year after year.

It's not that BB is a bigger show. It's that it is not, or at least wasn't scripted reality.

As for Love Island... It's appeal was always the fact that they were celebrities. And it was on the main channel rather than ITV2.

Truth is a lot have better things to do than watch bbuk 7 days a week but I will always be a fan of the show and I do like some of the channel 5 changes

mrmattybeck1 11-06-2015 09:40 AM

Ratings
Bbuk 1.01m
Love island 350k :)

Jake. 11-06-2015 10:23 AM

Not with +1 either, so it's probably about 1.1

Pete. 11-06-2015 10:25 AM

The ratings don't seem so bad in comparison to the flop that is Love Island

Jason. 11-06-2015 11:18 AM

The BB16 ratings are still worryingly low, though. Compared to every other series on Channel 5. I know it's getting over a million. But 1.1m is still awful, compared to the 1.5m that Channel 5 usually gets.

It's scary thinking this series is literally getting one third of the viewers that CBB15 got in January.

It's usually half of the viewers, now it's one third.

But, then again this series is not that good, Hopefully next year they fix up, and then they'll have another 1.6m average. At the moment, this series is averaging on 1.2m, which is almost 0.4m down on BB15, and 0.7m down on BB14.

Pete. 11-06-2015 11:32 AM

^ blame the producers lol

VanessaFeltz. 11-06-2015 11:35 AM

producers are so bad at their job last year people got mad when they manipulated the show and yet they are manipulating it EVER MORE this year ffs

Jason. 11-06-2015 11:44 AM

I just think they should kill Civvy BB, TBH.
It's never going to be good again.

They had a good run during 2012 and 2013. But ever since the rise of CBB, the quality of the Civilian series has dropped. Anyone else notice this?

This series had and still has potential if the producers stop playing around with the show because it affects the social dynamic of the show, which made BB13 and BB14 such great series

CBB9's still the best.

The only total dud between CBB9 and CBB13 was the Rylan & Speidi series but bizarrely that's the one they seem to want to emulate the most.

I agree. It was shaping up to be better than BB13/14 in Week 1 and 2. But the 4in4out twist butchered all of it.

The show is all about Marc now. Sick of the constant twists too. We still haven't had a week which consisted of normal nominations and a normal eviction, and just that. Even BB15 had Week 1 and Week 5.

Will. 11-06-2015 12:42 PM

But its getting the same shares even higher than 14/15 so it won't be getting more than it is because BB will never get 10% share of audience, its not CBB.

like 1.13 with BB16 is about 7.8% share.

with BB14 that would be like 1.4-5 with a 7.8%

TV veiewership is down, it won't get higher really as its getting a huge audience share.

Trasadkel1 11-06-2015 12:57 PM

I don't confess to know much about ratings but surely a lot of the problem is to do with how people watch TV now. Surely overnight figures are bound to go down due to the advent of sky +, Netflix demand 5 etc etc. I don't think people conciously sit down to watch a programme at the scheduled time like they used to as they know that it is so easy to catch up when it is convenient for them to do so. If you compare the ratings the soaps get now sometimes even they barely make 5/6 million when they used to get 10/12 million.

However I am probably talking bull so feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

It isn't. But you keep hanging on to those share percentages.

You really don't understand do you you idiot!

If it was getting the same amount of people watching as BB14 then it would be getting a 9-10% share and BB never gets that! It's not CBB!

Don't rise to it - just put him on ignore like I have. Hopefully he'll be banned before very much longer, seeing as he's been asked by a mod to just make a thread for his negative bollocks instead of cluttering up this thread with it and he's ignored it.
