I think they've tried to cover up Steve McFadden's break so he's not off screen for like 2 months by blocking the story cleverly with the Mel/Ben/Ciara stuff in between and then shifting the focus back to Abi/Max. So all the scenes Phil filmed were spaced out. But it hasn't worked smoothly.

Abi was sacked anyway. :(
