...The Family Fang looks good as well for a future watch, maybe...it’s a great cast with Nicole Kidman, Christopher Walken and Jason Bateman...

Niamh. 10-03-2021 01:46 PM

is that on Netflix too? We can do that one next

...yeah, Netflix...if you look in the Hidden Gem section, Niamh...I’ve watched quite a few from that section and none of them have disappointed so far...

Oh great, i don't think I've used that section before

Ammi 11-03-2021 06:50 PM

...so Trial by Fire...I’m not sure how I missed this when it came out...

Spoiler:

...the movie/story left me a bit stunned really because it doesn’t leave anything left to say in that it speaks for itself as a reason why the death penalty has no place ...it’s a true story and a fairly convincing case that an innocent man was put to death in Texas in 2004...I don’t know how accurate the court case in the movie was to the real one but it just felt incredibly rushed with no interest at all from the court appointed lawyer..and no one really speaking up for him because his lifestyle wasn’t one that was approved of by many in town...anyway, those poor, poor children and obviously it was a true story.....Laura Dern was excellent as Elizabeth...and wow, when she had her accident, such a twist...real life really can be stranger than fiction at times...but it was awful for her two children that she was so obsessed with his innocence to the point that they felt that she was becoming less and less a part of their lives...I didn’t know the story, I hadn’t read it before I watched...but I hoped that the execution would be stopped in the last hours and it obviously wasn’t ...I find executions in movies very difficult to watch..and the bit at the end with the governor of Texas...’do you sleep at night...etc...’...’yes, I sleep fine’....it was an excellent choice, Niamh......I’m glad that I watched it....and it totally reaffirmed my abhorrence for the death sentence...

Interesting Creepy movie with so many questions

Spoiler:

As we were getting towards the end I did suspect the twist of body swap, which made me go "oh no not that " lol, the concept of there being a doppelganger of every person was a bit strange ,and had me thinking How and why?, and does that mean others have swapped places . The end feels like the copies / doppelgangers want world domination. They never got rid of them all either. But Jordan Peel is a unique writer and he thinks outside the box for sure

...haha, spooky.....I won’t look at your spoiler GoldHeart ...because I’m thinking that I might watch it at some point ...although I’m not sure how I’ll feel about it, it does look pretty creepy...eeeek...

It is creepy Ammi but it's not really gorey or anything plus the story is an interesting idea, I think you will like it (Us)

Trial By Fire

Spoiler:

Ugh this was tough, I'm really not a fan of the Death Penalty anyway so these stories are just so terrifying. Todd's prisoner friend, was it Ponch? he said it right, you're poor, you're ****ed. You just know if Todd had a big bank account or a job, he would have had a decent lawyer, been able to get proper experts to look at the fire scene and blow the whole case open, it's almost impossible to do afterwards because those in charge don't want to admit they made a mistake or they didn't give this man a fair trial because it would bring the whole topic of the Death penalty into question, it's such a draconian and barbaric source of justice anyway imo, it doesn't give us a higher moral ground.

But the end was so sad, I really believed all the way through he was going to get his appeal and even up to when he was in the execution room, I was thinking that phone is going to ring. And besides all that he died not knowing why Liz wasn't there to say goodbye and to "not let him die alone" and poor Liz too, ending up in a wheelchair and also thinking she'd let him down :(

But yeah the second ending in a row where Justice really wasn't done, leaves you feeling a little deflated but it's important these stories are brought into the spotlight, maybe it will help to eventually have the Death Penalty abolished

I'm hoping the family Fang will be some light relief?!

Vanessa 12-03-2021 11:51 AM

If it's an horror movie then I'm going to love it

Ammi 13-03-2021 06:44 AM

...I might watch Us, Vanessa...it does look very creepy but I feel drawn to it ......

...The Family Fang...

Spoiler:

...another movie that I’m not sure exactly what to think......I was engrossed in watching it, it wasn’t a bad movie and I think that it was fine to watch after the previous two, which were so emotionally charged...a palette cleanser...I mean, there was obviously very little emotion because they were just child A and child B, which was obviously meant to be a play on their Christian name initial but I think it also described the Family Fang dynamics, in that their children were more like props in their lives and their lives with them was just a ‘performance’ anyway because their real lives were elsewhere...and then unravelling the mystery kind of freed the siblings in the end...it wasn’t a movie that I could warm to any of the characters particularly...although I obviously I did feel sad for Annie and Baxter...but I think that was maybe a deliberate thing as well...that we were a bit detached just as their lives had felt detached and then all of the issues they had into their adulthood years because of what their childhood had been...

The Family Fang

Spoiler:

This was an interesting one, I thought it was going to be be more of a comedy but it's actually much more serious than that. What a dysfunctional family. I mean it's really the story of a very abusive and controlling man, a worn down wife and two messed up children. Obviously the mother should have protected her kids more but she was clearly so far gone with such low self esteem, she still allowed him to control her even after he left her for another woman. It was a really sad story actually

Ammi 15-03-2021 09:38 AM

...I’ll have a look later to see what else we can find, we’ve found so many varied watches recently...

Ammi 15-03-2021 10:40 AM

...have you seen Beautiful Boy, Niamh...?...I don’t know much about it...

Niamh. 15-03-2021 10:42 AM

Yeah I've seen that, it is good but a bit depressing and I don't fancy watching it again.

Ammi 15-03-2021 10:48 AM

...The Rental...?...(...I’m just looking through Prime atm...)...

Niamh. 15-03-2021 10:52 AM

Just had a quick google, that one sounds alright

Ammi 15-03-2021 10:52 AM

...Escape from Pretoria...?...that might be the one that someone said was a good watch, I know that it was a Daniel Radcliffe movie, anyway...

Niamh. 15-03-2021 10:55 AM

Oh yeah that one looks good, is that on Prime as well?

Ammi 15-03-2021 10:57 AM

...yeah, they’re both Prime and they’re both free...let’s do Escape from Pretoria first, it’s based on a true story and I think it’s the one I was recommended...and then we’ll do The Rental straight after that...?...

Niamh. 15-03-2021 11:01 AM

Sounds like a plan

Ammi 15-03-2021 11:02 AM

Niamh. 15-03-2021 11:06 AM

Have you watched Parasite Ammi? I've been wanting to watch it, if you haven't seen it maybe we could add it to the list as well sometime (although it's subtitled so I'll probably watch it on my lunchbreaks)

Ammi 15-03-2021 11:11 AM

...I strangely was going to ask you the same thing when I saw it on Prime just now......I’ve wanted to watch it for a while, it’s meant to be amazing but I haven’t quite applied myself yet, with the subtitles because I can miss so much of the actual movie when I’m looking at the text......we’ll give it a go, though..this will be the perfect chance...?...I don’t mind which order that slots in, if you have a preference, I’m fine with any...

Niamh. 15-03-2021 11:16 AM

Do you want to do Parasite first? I'm only suggesting that because I'd probably watch the other 2 with Gav but I don't think he'd want to watch Parasite so I could start it on my break today

...of course, I’ll start it today as well...this is a good opportunity to watch it as I’ve dragged my heels a bit with it .....
