I think it's more to do with the fact that none of them are all that "nice" but as it's a competition between them people are opting for the nicest and sweetest.

No, the general public know sod all about it. Only the people willing to actually look for it.

By "hiding", I meant the fact she wants to pretend she's from a higher social standing as though ashamed of her real background.

That won't win favour with working class people from council estate backgrounds.
