And the reason they are closing down is because of the Israeli goverment and their desire to control the news. So if their leaving means less politics I'm happy enough. |
I'm glad our public supported Moldova and Romania, the two clear winners of the night

So basically the Israeli spokesman has misled Europe.
In addition to what starry said, there's a lot of corruption in the IBA and the latest political moves of Netanyahu and his disgraceful party. Basically shutting down the IBA is a great decision - it's an archaic, irrelevant, notorious, hardly-viewed broadcaster, known for its waste of public money and non-proportional salaries. Netanyahu himself made the (right) decision to shut it down. It should have been replaced by a new broadcaster made from scratch called Kann (כאן), which is already a promising relevant and fresh alternative. It was due to happen on January this year. But then Netanyhau felt that Kann are starting to show left-wing signs: the news desk has been working on a story about something really fishy related to him; the designated news anchor is the wife of his political rival (from the same party). So he dragged the parliament to a vote in which they have delayed the change of broadcasters to April 1st (with the Minister of Culture notoriously saying "what's the use in a public broadcast if we can't control it?"). By April Netanyahu suddenly decided to make a U-turn after a meetup with the IBA's workers has allegedly convinced him that it's wrong to fire them and leave dozens of families jobless. So he made a deal with the minister of treasury to separate Kann from its news department and merge it with the IBA's personnel. That way, the current head of news department will be fired (and presumably the news anchor as well and all the "lefties" of Kann). So IBA has been shut down last week with less than a 30 minutes notice (but that's a whole new disgusting story), with the exception of Eurovision (which they were committed to broadcast). Kann is starting to broadcast tomorrow afternoon. The IBA does stop broadcasting the Eurovision, but Kann is set to replace it. The only issue right now is that the news department will be separated from the broadcaster, which is against the EBU rules, but they'll figure it out (+ we're waiting to hear from the supreme court, which might rule out Netanyahu's move). From what I understand, Israel won't be able to broadcast the world cup either because of the same issue. So... as we say in Israel, it's a big balagan. This country is going politically bankrupt one step at a time. It's all very disgusting and shameful, to say the least. |

Stolen from DS Forum
Ukraine's jury ranked Bulgaria 3rd in the Semi-Final and then after the news broke that Kristian visited Crimea (whilst still a minor and BEFORE it became against the law) the Ukraine jury then buried him 22nd in the Final. |
