Is that a “no” then? The NHS is struggling. It struggled significantly during the first two waves (early 2020 and last winter) and has had ropey periods throughout Delta. That’s in terms of Covid care. In terms of other types of care (all sorts of things, from cancer to basic A&E care) it’s falling apart at the seams. That’s not a “myth” or an “old chestnut”, it’s the simple facts. Not enough staff already, haemorrhaging more staff because conditions and public attitude are so bad, and then vast numbers more ending up off sick with Covid. Just because you can’t see what’s going on underneath the surface, doesn’t mean things are fine. I appreciate that it makes some people feel better to continue lying to themselves and pretending it’s all rainbows. The health service is in big, big trouble. |
There will be no further covid measures before the new year in england - so says the health secretary

No one save you is saying its fine, its in constant not fit for purpose state every year never mind covid, its poorly run and not the envy of any country. But the whole of the UK should not be held to ransom to protect its failings. More than 60 NHS chiefs earn more than Prime Minister's £142k My point is it's used as the silver bullet to get restrictions through everytime by the very people (successive governments) responsible for its decline (does not matter which party) As for if you dont personally know someone point, that is just bollocks |

The NHS budget was £33 billion when Tony Blair came to power in 1997; it has quadrupled to over £150 billion. The NHS capacity crisis, however, has persisted throughout. General and acute bed numbers fell from 181,000 beds in 1987 to just over 100,000 before the pandemic. Despite the backdrop of a steadily ageing population: the number aged 85 or over is predicted to double in 20 years. (spectator report) |
The number of people in hospital with coronavirus in England is less than half
what it was this time last year, despite there being three times as many reported cases, figures show. As the government met with scientists to decide whether to impose new restrictions, the latest hospital data showed there were 7,536 patients in hospital on December 26, compared to 18,350 on the same day last year. The current figure has risen slightly after falling in recent weeks, and is now at around the same level as on November 1 (7,535). The latest data showed that reported coronavirus cases fell to 98,000 from 103,000 in England on Monday. The numbers from the other devolved nations, as well as hospital admissions, will be updated on Tuesday. DT just now |
There is no economic or social equivalent of Sage offering parallel advice about mental health, other diseases, damage to employment sectors, damage to children and so on
And it is a huge problem that will only grow and grow |
Sage is just an advisory body, the same as countless other advisory body's. The problem as i see it is that the media give them too much weight and if the media don't get the outcome they want, they pick an individual from that body to re-enforce their agenda. It's not that sage are doing a bad job, it's just their advice is but one part of a bigger picture and that is something the media dont readily admit
