TotalFilm's 50 Greatest Harry Potter characters. I like most of their rankings :)

http://www.totalfilm.com/features/50...er-characters/

Also Deathly Hallows Part 2 passed Chamber of Secrets yesterday to become the 22nd highest grossing film of all time, it hasn't even been out for three weeks. Plus, it hasn't hit cinemas in China yet so you can expect huge numbers from there too, at the moment it's on track to challenge The Return of the King for the 3rd highest grossing film of all time with $1.12 billion dollars.

Joelle. 29-07-2011 12:23 AM

It has overtaken Goblet Of Fire to become 19th highest grossing of all time. In the end it will probably make the top 5 at least.

KG. 29-07-2011 12:29 AM

I think it will overtake Titanic by the time they stop showing it in the cinemas, if not it will definitely do it when the DVD/Blu ray is released.

I really don't see that happening. Titanic made nearly 3 billion, plus it's getting re-released next year to coincide with the Titanic's 100th anniversary so even if DH did overtake it which I highly doubt it will, it would only get overtaken again in 2012. DVD/Blu-ray sales do not count towards a film's overall box office gross either otherwise all of the HP films would be a lot higher.

Joelle. 29-07-2011 12:35 AM

It will beat Titanic at most but it will be a long time before anything ends Avatars reign at the top, apart from maybe Avatar 2?

Love the BBCs description of Avatar: The science-fiction adventure, about a disabled marine who infiltrates a race of giant blue aliens.

I can't see Avatar 2 beating the original but you never know, it's probably the film that stands the highest chance because of how well it's predecessor did. 3D will obviously help considerably but people may have lost interest by whenever it's released. I personally can see Titanic becoming the highest grossing film once again after it's re-released next year, it's being released in 3D too so I can the box office numbers being huge.

Yep I can see Titanic raking in as much box office from this re-release as it did on its original theatrical run. Add that to the existing total and it could well overtake Avatar. If not it will come very close.

Its pulled in $900 million in 15 days. 3 days faster to reach $900m than Avatar.

Callum 30-07-2011 05:00 PM

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on ITV1 now. Great film, I liked the new direction with this one, it feels darker too. Although they missed out the Marauders subplot, I still enjoy watching this film.

In a fitting farewell to one of the most magical film series in Hollywood history, Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the first film in the franchise to reach the $1 billion mark worldwide.

Deathly Hallows 2 will cross the milestone on Saturday, having grossed $296 million domestically and $630 million overseas through Thursday for a global total of $926 million. Another blockbuster weekend at the multiplex is forecast, allowing the film to easily pass the vaunted $1 billion mark.

The movie becomes only the 9th title in history to gross north of $1 billion worldwide, a club that includes Warners’ The Dark Knight ($1 billion), Disney’s Alice in Wonderland ($1.02 billion) and Disney’s 2011 summer tentpole Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($1.03 billion).

Deathly Hallows 2, benefiting from being released in 3D, is racing past the milestone in about two weeks, a remarkable achievement. Until now, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone overseas) was the top grossing pic in the franchise, having grossed $974.8 million globally in 2001-02.

The Harry Potter franchise has always been immensely successful internationally, with every title in the series earning substantially more offshore. So far, 68 percent of Deathly Hallows Part 2’s gross has been earned at the international box office, fueled by standout performances in the U.K., Japan, Australia and Germany.

By the end of this weekend, Deathly Hallows Part 2 should surpass Sorcerer’s Stone's domestic gross of $317 million, the best in the series. It also will have surpassed the $659 million earned last year internationally by Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Only one film has ever grossed north of $2 billion, and that’s James Cameron’s Avatar ($2.8 billion).
Great news :D I really hope it can beat Return of the King to become the third highest grossing film of all time.

Marc 30-07-2011 07:33 PM

1 billion

Smithy 30-07-2011 07:38 PM

Nope, the numbers would be huge if they did though

Majority of it's earnings were from IMAX and 3D screenings, plus it was rereleased with a extended version IIRC, so it was always going to do extremely well but does it deserve to be the highest grossing film ever? I don't think it does

IheartBB 30-07-2011 09:28 PM

I can see it finishing #3 on the all time list. Avatar and Titanic were slow burners that A) didn't have the same anticipation and fan base of Deathly Hallows and B) took advantage of the annual January/February box office lull.

Marsh. 30-07-2011 10:53 PM

Does the Pottermore site open at midnight for the first 1 million users? Anyone know?

My brother just reminded me and said it's not letting anyone on the site because it's crashing.
