Lol Andy.

And..

Gillett points finger at Rafa
American defends Reds investment

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has reportedly claimed that Rafa Benitez is to blame for the club's failings rather than the owners.

The Reds have endured a difficult week, losing 2-0 to Fiorentina in the Champions League before going down by the same scoreline to title rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Liverpool face a massive week after the international break with games against Sunderland, Lyon and Manchester United in the space of a week which could determine their campaign.

Gillett and fellow co-owner Tom Hicks have come under fire from Liverpool supporters since taking charge for shelving plans for Liverpool's new stadium and restricting Benitez's transfer budget.

However, Gillett in a report in the Daily Telegraph claims the American the pair have done more than their Premier League rivals to improve the financial footing of their club.

"We have invested more money than our competitors, in keeping with the history of the club," Gillett is quoted as telling a representative of the fans' group Spirit of Shankly prior to Liverpool's 6-1 win over Hull last week.

"In the last 18 months, we have invested £128m on top of what has come in. That means it should be getting better.

"Now if it's not getting better, it's not Gillett and Hicks, it's the manager, it's the scouting. You have to make sure you balance out your analysis.

"There was plenty of money, so if you have any complaints, take a look at the ins and outs."

Gillett also added that the £30million fee recouped from Xabi Alonso's move to Real Madrid "went straight back" into the club's transfer budget, which was already set at "£22-23m as part of our budgets".

Gillett added: "The club is in extraordinarily good financial condition. Far better than Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal.

"We have invested massively, we have put more money in than anyone other than Manchester City, with the craziness they have got."

Eh, he was man of the match, scored against his old club, taught Adebayor a lesson in how to behave with dignity.... what else do you want from him? He was immense. Creamed Barry too which was a beautiful thing to behold.

BITE SIZE NEWS!

-Tomas Rosicky says he has not held talks with Arsenal over a new deal and is just focused on staying fit and healthy.
The Czech Republic ace has had a nightmare on the injury front since joining the Gunners and has only just got back into the side following hamstring problems over the last two years.

-Fulham are ready to offer Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko the chance to stay in London if he cannot force his way into Harry Redknapp's plans.
The Russia international has barely featured for Spurs this term although his chances have been hindered by a mild Achilles strain.

-Chelsea are set to make a move for Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira if they win their appeal against a transfer ban.
The Blues are unable to make any new signings during the next two transfer windows following the Gael Kakuta saga but they hope to have the ban lifted following an appeal.
If they are successful then reports claim that Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti will make a move to bring Viera back to the Premiership after he fell out of favour with Inter.

-Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani is close to making his debut for Liverpool. The 25-year-old is recovering well from his ankle injury that kept him sidelined since August.

-Promising Everton forward Jose Baxter has been arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply as well as having counterfeit money.
The 17-year-old has been released on police bail after being arrested on Monday in the Kirkby area of Liverpool along with two men aged 29 and 34.

-Tottenham are being linked with a move for midfielder Sulley Muntari as his days at Inter Milan look to be numbered.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp knows all about the player after signing him for Portsmouth when he was in charge at Fratton Park and a reunion could be on the cards.

-"Arsenal are poised to move for Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour."
The daily tabloid add: "The Belgian international is currently out with a broken foot but Arsene Wenger is a big fan. The Gunners boss has sent scouts to watch Defour but knows he faces competition from Valencia and Everton for his signature."
Defour, 21, is a central midfielder considered one of the brightest young players in Belgium. He can play all across the midfield as well as in an advanced position closer to the forwards. - Worth 10m Euro.

Allnews from different big clubs.

setanta 06-10-2009 11:40 AM

Carlo Ancelotti always goes for the older players, doesn't he? Viera might be a good investment and would give Essien more freedom.

Fulham really need a good striker cuz I don't rate the two they have right now at all.

Looks like Redknapp doesn't fancy Palacios that much if he's going for Muntari, or maybe it's just back up.

30stone 06-10-2009 11:56 AM

Well Arsenal want him to.
Essien and Alex song will both be away for like 3 months for africa cup nations tournament.
So someone will get him.

And yeah he could be a great player at fulham.

And Muntari is meant to be great like better, he was tracked by liverpool man utd and arsenal before tottenham.

setanta 06-10-2009 12:00 PM

Yep, the African Nations and the transfer ban will really effect Chelsea's chances this year.

Muntari is quality.... Portsmouth miss him big time.

30stone 06-10-2009 12:05 PM

Yeah for sure, redknapp only every buys players from the clubs he used to manage he needs to broaden his view.

And yeah Chelsea could struggle, this season i doubt, only problem chelsea have is Mikel and Essien will be at cup nations, so other than ballack they dont have many people to fill the position, maybe zhirkov, be good that zhirkov and jcole are fit.

Wonder if they will win their appeal the ban..

setanta 06-10-2009 12:15 PM

Honestly can't say if they'll win their appeal. Does put them in an awful little pickle if they don't. I suppose Belletti could play the holding midfield position or Zhirkov could partner Ballack. I don't know.... it's really dodgy. Least Cole's coming back for you.

30stone 06-10-2009 12:23 PM

Im not a chelsea fan, talking about Arsneal you can say me lol.

But yeah i think they have some good cover really.

setanta 06-10-2009 12:25 PM

Sorry, I forgot. Who am I mixing you up with? lol. Is Drogba going to the African Nations?

Shaun 06-10-2009 12:26 PM

setanta 06-10-2009 12:30 PM

Sure you're through anyway. Watch Ireland vs Italy at the weekend..... going to be good.

30stone 06-10-2009 12:34 PM

Ridiculous hope no one watches it.

And no idea setanta probably brad hes chelsea, am arsenal.

And **** yeah dorgba will be going to!

And man city will have no adebayor or toure?..

setanta 06-10-2009 12:37 PM

I'm telling you, they're big losses to both teams. I don't know if they're all going though. Haven't really looked into it.

Ireland's match will be a doozie. ha ha.

30stone 06-10-2009 12:48 PM

So

Man city lose: Kolo Toure, Adebayor, Benjani
Chelsea : Drogba, Mikel, Essien
Arsenal : Song.

Who else to people lose?
