My theory is that he isn't really a lawyer, but hasn't told Chantelle. I'm guessing he's in some sort of sales, maybe street sales for an energy firm or something which is why he's always dressed in a suit.

First of all, he didn't want to help Mel when she came to him for advice. He said Hunter had no chance, but maybe he couldn't help because he ISN'T actually a lawyer?

Second of all, Chantelle mentioned last night that they had a small wedding and a pub lunch. Maybe they couldn't afford it? Gray is presumably on a higher salary.

Thirdly, Gray is keen on running charity events. Perhaps he scams money to help fund is phoney lifestyle?
