Putin should've been removed as president, he really is mentally unfit to continue as a leader, he really has changed so much

he is the one who makes his nation look bad, very bad

Indeed; I think hacker groups targetting Russia should be another big indicator of what people there really think. A huge chunk of the biggest members of these hacker groups are Russian and will be operating from within Russia. Likely why they were able to hack the Russian government and media stuff so quickly - these guys learned and practiced their skills on Russian servers... it's their own back yard.

I feel awful for the normal citizens of Russia who are completely against the action being taken. Even the soldiers, half of them are practically kids (18 - 21 year olds) and have no idea what's going on. But then I guess you could say that for most armed conflicts.

No, he does not want to be removed.
He is carrying on.

During WWII Sweden and Switzerland stayed neutral, today Switzerland have frozen all Russian assets and Sweden has sent 5000 anti tank missles to Ukraine

After thinking about it for a long long time , I finally got round to changing my Russian sounding middle name. I've been Putinitov for far too long.

The reason for Sweden being neutral in WW2 is fairly obvious, they were somewhat sandwiched between Russia and the Nazis and their country could have ended up collateral damage in a clash between them. This time, they're aligned with all of western Europe on one side and pressed up against Russia on the other (well, Finland is between them, but I'm thinking more of the Nordic countries collectively).

Switzerland, the cynic in me would suggest, simply does not want to get caught up in the financial ****storm that is going to hit Russia with the sanctions, so there's probably a "banking reason" that makes it more stable if they simply freeze assets.

It's satire at its finest on the most poignant of contemporary issues today.

In a way it's even worse because Russia has mandatory military service, all males by law have to do a year in the military between the age of 18 and 27. So a lot of the soldiers being sent into Ukraine to kill or be killed didn't even make that decision to be a career soldier and won't want to be there at all. I think things like the "broken down tank" video make much more sense with that in mind. Those guys are quite happy to sit by their out-of-fuel tank in the middle of nowhere and hope that they get the order to withdraw before it's fixed... they'll just want to go home.

Also there's the disconnect of the Middle East being half a world away and easier to disconnect from for us ... this would be like the UK govt. conscripting a load of kids just out of school in the UK, handing them guns, and telling them to invade Ireland, where they may well have friends or extended family. Really such a messy situation.

And I think this is being reflected in a lot of the outcomes of these first battles. The Ukrainians are highly motivated and fighting furiously... and while the Russian troops outnumber & outgun them, their hearts are just not in it.

Putin claims it was Liz Truss's comments that prompted him to put Nukes on high alert :skull:

bots 28-02-2022 12:30 PM

what she said was careless, but no way they would take that action over a throw away comment
