I find it surprising that these people who are supposedly so passionate about the chance to go to Uni have the time to take a day off from their studies and risk getting themselves arrested (I'm just talking about those partaking in violence btw)

Wouldnt surprise me if there's a lot of anarchists, or something like that, there causing some of the violence

People agree with it because they have selfish "it's all about me" attitude and don't want to pay for what benefits society as a whole. These uni students won't get much sympathy from the wider community because they envy the fact that uni students managed to do what they never could... worked hard for a decent education. Asking them to pay for it is like rubbing salt in the wound. Truth is everyone benefits.... including and especially those from lower socio-economic background with kids who want to make a go of life instead of doing a crumby factory job and then watch TV all night.

A right wing system that was created by Labour?

I think a user pays eduction system is. Kind of the whole point of the thread but there you go. Or are you arguing that every policy labour puts forward is automatically left wing? Sounds like you are. You know the sound on game shows when a contestant gets it wrong....think of that sound.

BOOSH 10-11-2010 05:09 PM

Hmmmm.. yeah they smashed windows and stuff but the way the news are saying it is as if they went around shooting people.

ange7 10-11-2010 05:11 PM

Thugs attacking all those working there
is not what this Demo was about.

The Mayor of London just said
the Protest before this was good
and those Thigs will now face the full face of the Law.

Nah I just think you should end your little obsession with the political spectrum, and your apparent need to bring it into the discussion. We are not having a pointless and petty discussion over which side of the spectrum we should categorise tuition fees.

Try reading the title again, it's about the protest, it's kind of the whole point of the thread but there you go..

Live on all media.

I was watching on SkyNewsHD
and a Thug - Criminal -Student Lad smashed the thick window
in Millbank and then to my Horror
a Female Student rammed a Stick in it.

They don't deserve any help if that is the way they act, what a shame they have tarred the protest which started off peacefully.idiots.

lol... so it's not about politics?
your saying
"please stop talking politics!!" is that right? wow!
So it's about "the preotesters".
What do you want to talk about... their dress sense? Everything that revolves around government policy is politics....including this.
"We are not having a pointless and petty discussion over which side of the spectrum we should categorise tuition fees."
this was your point not mine. It's generally agreed that a user pays system is a right wing model. Your the only one on the planet arguing it ain't.

I'm talking about your insistence to bring a political spectrum into everything. A spectrum which, in reality, means very little and it is pretty pointless categorising every single thing into "right" or "left".

I want to talk about what's happening at the protest, and the effect the violence will have on their cause, whether the current fees system is "right-wing" or not is irrelevant.

And yes, that is what I said but it is your point, it was you who decided to bring the political spectrum into a discussion on a protest which turned violent. Obviously politics is a part of what happened today but you were just trying to label the system in what you consider to be a derogatory manner which is pointless

LOL. Who is this view aimed at? MOST of the people on that march had drive and enthuasism - well done for getting your 10 hour a day job (that is meant honestly) but I fail to see how you can call people wasters for going on to further education.

Beastie 10-11-2010 05:39 PM

I do think it's a lot of money paying 9 grand a year to do a degree course. Therefore it will cost you 27 grand when you have finished the course. (This is on average)

I don't blame the protesters. However suppose there are plenty of people at uni who should not be there. However it is so hard to get a job. I would have gone to university if I couldn't find a job which I was really lucky to get.

It is a lose lose situation!

on reflection everything you have said here is correct. I'm such a mong... please forgive me? This thread should be retitled "what MTVN wants to talk about".
snnnnaps! :P

It's aimed at people who don't work in a factory 10 hours a day who he resents bitterly. hehe

I work in a warehouse. lol

However my shifts change. When work dries up I was only working there 2 days a week and I hope that doesn't happen again.

I feel sorry for our generation!
