I can actually understand full who haven't read the books not enjoying the films actually... I mean, I Luke the films because I loved the books so much and its nice seeing something that you've completely immersed yourself in being brought to life on the big screen..but I have to say, to somebody who hasn't gotten into the books, the films must seem quite ****ty.

'Conor 19-11-2011 11:52 AM

I never read the books, and i saw the 1st 3 and thought they were atrocious and couldn't understand why everyone was obsessing over it so much :conf:

Though I didn't think the 3rd one was that bad!

Yeah I see what you mean. The films are so **** in comparison to the books. Yhey leave out so many important little details.

Stu 19-11-2011 12:05 PM

A film should be able to stand on it's own. Bring the hate.

The books themselves aren't that good really, they're addictive yes but badly written. Bella's one of the weakest main characters I've ever seen, you could replace her with a cardboard box and the box would be more interesting. Same goes for Edward and Jacob, no characterization outside of 'I LOVE BELLA! I'LL GO TO STALKERISH LENGTHS TO BE WITH HER12!"!'

The story is flaccid and despite the situations the characters get into there's never a sense of urgency or danger, The Volturi are the worst evil group of vampire leaders ever to grace the page and cinema their contribution to the books is basically 'HELLO WE'RE EVIL, WE TURN UP AT THE END OF MOST OF THE BOOKS TO TALK FOR 20 MINUTES AND THEN WE SOD OFF BACK HOME AFTER DOING NOTHING FOR SOME CHEESE AND WINE'.

Ninastar 19-11-2011 12:46 PM

i agree actually

I loved reading them like 2 years ago, but looking back, I really can't see why. the characters are so boring.

I liked them and idgaf what anyone says though. http://oi54.tinypic.com/rm5w6q.jpg

To be honest, it does get a lot more interesting post-Vampire Bella. Thats why I think Stephanie should write another. She can do so much more with Bella now imo.

But I'm not too fussed if she doesn't, she tied off Breaking Dawn nicely enough.

Smithy 19-11-2011 02:08 PM

well I don't need to read them now :joker:

Niall 19-11-2011 10:05 PM

Omg I just got back from the movie  :

Spoiler:

It was just incredible. I was gearing myself up for a disappointment after I read some of the initial reviews, but I thought the film was awesome and really did the book justice.

The first thing I noticed was that nearly everything was as I pictured it; the wedding, Isle Esme all looked the same as how I’d visualised them when reading the book - they got it perfect.

The pacing also felt speedy despite the fact they transferred nearly everything from the book into the movie. The compression of the storyline wasn’t really a detriment to the movie but more of a benefit, I didn’t get bored at all, my eyes were glued to the film throughout. It was perfect. Each section (the wedding, the pregnancy, the birth) was the perfect length.

The only things that I didn’t like were that some of the effects for Isle Esme looked a ‘lil bit cheap and they actually managed to make Rob look ugly in the Wedding scene.

Other than that it was perfect. Best one of the series (yet).

Lee. 19-11-2011 10:11 PM

Niall, I totally agree about everything looking just as you had imagined it.. my sis said the same.

It was horrible when it ended wadnt it?!

Niall 19-11-2011 10:18 PM

Yeah!

Spoiler:

I nearly crapped myself when the music cut out and she opened her eyes. It really made me jump.

It sucks that Part 2 is a year away.

Lee. 19-11-2011 10:22 PM

It really does! I can't wait!

How awful did they manage to make Bella look?!

Niall 19-11-2011 10:24 PM

Nor can I! I'm hoping that big sales for this one will give them an incentive to release Part 2 quickly or something. *Crosses fingers*

And ikr! She looked ghastly. Kristen is actually beautiful so the effects they put on her to make her so emaciated were incredible.

I hated the way they unintentionally made Rob look so ugly too. :yuk:

Lee. 19-11-2011 10:34 PM

Yeah, I could barely look at her, she looked so bad :(

And I don't think Edward looked ugly at all!

Niall 19-11-2011 10:51 PM

Same. I felt so bad for her.

And omg they did! At the Wedding he looked awful!

Vicky. 20-11-2011 12:56 PM

This was amazing

Thought it was really slow though for the first half hour or so, and they focused ay too much on mushy scenes...but I guess with them just getting married...they will focus more on the romance thing.

Chuck 20-11-2011 01:57 PM

is this the one that has a couple of scenes in Rio? :suspect:

Lee. 20-11-2011 02:03 PM

Yes it has Chuck :amazed:

Chuck 20-11-2011 02:15 PM

Thanks Lee :amazed:

I think I'll watch it then. I've been to the places they filmed: Angra dos Reis and Búzios which are cities outside the capital and Lapa is that bohemian area they dance together.

The Rio scene only lasts for a minute or so... but yeah, watch it anyway :)
