relatively speaking it is a fail.

Hitting number one is not a big stretch for an artist of her status. Especially with a brand new song from a new album...following a 10mill plus album. And at this time of the year too when sales are low. Also..

easy to create huge instant high demand when you build up the pressure and then pop the cork. Nobody even got to hear it prior to its release. How often does that happen? Obviously it would create a big surge of interest...which of course was the plan.

Adele's Rolling in the deep was out there a good 3 months before its release and STILL went on to be a huge hit worldwide. And it will hang around for months. Because it is a quality song with substance. I suspect BTW will quickly plummet.

Musically it is certainly a fail. Even her fanatics are admitting its her worst single. So much for moving forward.

ever since gaga left the fun persona of the first album which was phenominal she has gone rapidly done hill mainly because shes trying to hard to become this mother monster who is a hideous creature that now makes dreadful music as shown with born this way which is just terrible and lets hope the video is better than alejandro and she gets rid of those stupid prosthetic horns

yay for adele

The problem with Lady Gaga is she has absolutely no sense of humour. Everything she does is so po-faced. She looks a fright but she thinks she's a Real Artist, when all she is is a amalgam of past pop artists (Madonna, Bjork, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Hazel O'Conner, Gwen Staffani, Marilyn Manson, Boy George etc) and repackaged.

Zippy 21-02-2011 06:48 AM

Adele's album is released in America tomorrow. It's already number 6 on US itunes just on pre-orders. Plus her last album(19) is at number 9. Her single Rolling in the deep looks set to make a huge leap on Billboard hot100 as its now up to number 8 on itunes.

Amazing how her last album is also getting a whole new lease of life.

Good luck, Adele!

Niamh. 21-02-2011 09:24 AM

*still hasn't even heard BTW*

How is 135,000 copies over the past week a low amount of sales? Don't be ridiculous.

Every artist builds hype not just Gaga. The BTW hype may have been a bit more substantial but its a marketing tactic used by nearly all artists.

Having a song out in the wild for an extended period of time doesn't always guarantee success. And I think that BTW might actually climb back up the charts after the video is released.

And no-one can really judge a song based on the music because tbf we all have different tastes. :/ But either way the song is actually really good and I think the majority of Gaga fans are extremely pleased with the song - I for one am.

Excuse me? Most singers have a major influence that they pay homage to. Marilyn Monroe had a massive influence on Madonna for example. Ugh. :bored:

Jords 21-02-2011 12:21 PM

Her music videos are really good, Ill give her that. But she needs to save the wierdness for them and be more 'normal'.

When she talks theres like, no emotion..

Jordan. 21-02-2011 12:24 PM

BTW fallen to 4 on itunes.

I really don't remember Madonna ripping off a Marilyn Monoe single. Madonna has payed homage to Monroe but she didn't try and repackage her and something "new!" and "outrageous!" and "dangerous!"

Gaga is a fake.

Congratulations to Adele.

Adele is celebrating an astonishing chart double, holding the top spot in both the singles and album charts - the first act since The Beatles to do so.

The singer-songwriter's latest tune, Someone Like You, which she sang live at the Brits, moved up from 47 to take the top singles position.

She also held on to the number one slot for a fourth week with her second album 21.

Her debut album 19 moved up two places from six to four while her other single, Rolling In The Deep, climbed from five to four.

Adele is the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both charts at the same time since The Beatles.

In January 1964 the group's singles, I Want To Hold Your Hand and She Loves You, were numbers two and five and their albums With The Beatles and Please, Please Me were numbers one and two.
