It's not so much that one excuses the other, it's just that the issue with the rich costs the country/government far more money than benefit cheats, but there are no national campaigns demonising the rich.

People are generally unaware of the problem that rich people avoiding tax/employing loopholes causes, but ask anyone about benefit cheats, and people lose their ****. Poor people inform on their neighbours, and hot lines are set up to encourage this practice.

I think this woman has acted appallingly, and she will be prosecuted. The poor are having the very things they rely on taken away from them to pay for a rich mans caused recession, and politicians are talking about shared sacrifice.

Highlighting the lack of justice, does not absolve a this woman of a theft of government funds, but everyone in the country is against this woman, whilst very few of us are even aware that there is another side to this.

Well, I can't comment on how much it's discussed over there, but here people are far more outraged and angry at our government and their expenses and our bankers and us having to be bailed out because of them, then benefit cheats.

We have good ol' Rupert Murdochs press over here, constantly forcing "dole scroungers/benefit cheats/single mums/muslims" down our throats.

The bailouts were completely necessary at the time that they happened, but I bet you've never seen one item on the news/in a newspaper about the money that rich people cost, by avoiding paying what they are legally obliged to pay.

I understand your points and I agree with them as well, I just don't think it excuses people like that women in the news story. I dislike anyone who makes my tax bill higher, I don't discriminate :joker:

I agree, but the link from this woman to your taxes being increased, is more than a little tenuous.

Well, it's non existent really as she's British  but seriously, I hear what you're saying but it's more than just that, it's annoying as well, when I have to work for everything I have,I can't just stay home and look after my kids like she does, and I'm pretty much paying her to do it.

Kizzy 06-03-2012 08:07 PM

And lets never mention multinationals or corporate tax either.
