I don't think people use the term "coloured people" anymore. I know you didn't mean anything by it, but I thought you should know.

I wonder if that's how all people right out in the sticks refer to them as. Not heard that term in years either and sounds really American.

I hear that term quite a bit where I live. Mostly from people who've never met a black person.

No criticism of Kazanne, like JHC I'm sure she meant nothing by it.

The student population here is quite heavily Chinese - but the general public, I'd say, is about 80% white.

Barring that i'd say my area is fairly multi cultural, the small town I live in isn't that varied but the bigger towns are.

lol we've had some EDL graffiti spring up on the walls around here last couple of weeks, was nice to see on one of them somebody had written "are *****s" underneath it

Maybe they could move the Mosque?

My city is Portsmouth and I would say it is quite culturally diverse. My college is especially diverse - particularly as we have many English as a second language classes (ESOL) and we endorse the many cultures of the world.

Very good idea, then they wouldn't block the road everyday

Marsh. 04-12-2012 08:24 PM

They can be pretty annoying when you hear the call to prayer at all hours. I used to live near one too and it drives you up the wall.

It's so annoying when you hear the trumpet being blown (or whatever it is) every few minutes lol.

I've always used that term, I didn't realise it was offensive though as I just thought it was better than saying black, asian, or ethnic all the time.

As the saying goes "you learn something new everyday".
