the truth 10-12-2012 09:19 AM

tens of thousands of patients die every year from nursing negligence and abuse and barely a word is said....yet this one tragic story of 1 nurse gets thousandsof pages written about it. the whole disaster wasn just due to a tacky nasty prank but to the insatiable tacky greedy 24 hour news and tabloid trash that magnified the pressure and embarassment on this one pressurised person. very sad story, but blame should be shared beteen the pranksters and the media.

Read the interview in the Guardian this morning, quite ironic that she called for the family to be given some privacy don't you think?

Life is Tough

People have been doing these as long as telephones have existed. It's a tragedy that she committed suicide, but over the last few years I can remember people getting through to Sarkosy, Sarah Palin, an American governor called Scott Walker, and those are recent ones. No deaths resulted from them.

These people will have to live with this, and that is punishment enough. I don't want to live in a society where people aren't allowed to be stupid from time to time.

arista 10-12-2012 02:27 PM

Yes but thats a Prank with Stars or MP's

This was a Nurse who is living alone in her special work flat

You can not compare the others to this Lady from India

Wasn't the prank to see if they could get through? They didn't set out to target this nurse.

Kazanne 10-12-2012 02:34 PM

I think these two were idiots, just what did they expect to gain?and,to target Kate and William at such a intimate time was just insensitive and all in pursuit of a 'prank' They now have the gall to sob and weep on tele, how terrible life is for them.

No they don't, and using the "bold" function doesn't add gravitas to your point.

Niamh. 10-12-2012 02:41 PM

I agree that if blame needs to be put anywhere that the Press should bear the brunt of it.

AnnieK 10-12-2012 02:55 PM

To be honest I feel the attitude to these djs is very sad, there is culpability on so many levels:

1 - the hospital should have had trained staff manning the telephone, especially at the time they have the wife of the future heir to the throne as a patient
2 - as lily said earlier as sad as it is the nurse should not have given out confidential information, she should not have been allowed to cover the phones if she was unaware of the fundamental rules governing patient confidentiality
3 - the Australian radio station and it's legal team. In my mind the djs were pawns in this more than anything, thy will have been told to try the prank etc. the legal team then sanctioned the broadcast.
4 - the press who have since played and replayed and written about it.

I could go on but to then persecute these two people only is ridiculous and smells of scapegoating as far as I am concerned. It's a terrible tragedy but as I said before hindsight is a wonderful thing, this cannot have be foreseen ending this badly.

But you used it.

Arista, you make me laugh and frustrated in equal measure at different times.

Let's just play out your scenario.

Let's say we arrest them, fly them over here to face trial, and then lock them away for 10 years.

Then what? What has that done, really? It doesn't achieve anything.

By sacking them, you will create more opportunities for them. All the shows in the US will get them on as guests, and some will probably offer them a higher paid job doing the same thing.

They'll become multi-millionaires over night.

Why not go the whole hog arista and demand a life for a life!

The hospital messed up but not having a properly trained gatekeeper in situ. Had they done so the DJ's would not have got through as they expected they would not. With a high profile VIP patient they should have had someone to make sure the yapping dogs of the media were held at bay.

Now when it hits the fan, they pass the blame.

No We Ain't Strict Muslims here in England

Sticks 10-12-2012 03:34 PM

I never mentioned Islam. In fact the expression, "A life for a life" is actually found in the Old Testament.
