But then it's a dictatorship. The vote for TIBB PM needs to be undertaken by TIBB fm's. Otherwise there is no point.

Poor Arista. He'll be crying into his torn jeans.

Yeah, I agree with you jhc

Jack_ 06-03-2013 04:25 PM

How about picking the leaders, then they all go off and create their campaigns, party names etc in secret, and then Ben presents them to us without giving away the names of who created each campaign (so it's sort of anonymous) and then we vote? And the campaign designers are revealed after the vote?

Well then whats the point? As seen with the game that just ended it was felt their hard work was for nothing as friends voted for friends.
If that was to happen again why go to the trouble of campaigning?

Yeah, that's a good, fair idea Jack!

True, but then it goes back to not wanting it to be a popularity contest. Which leads me nicely to this....

Jack, you should present this idea and your earlier one about policies to Ben. I think it's very feasible. It's not my decision since I'm not running it this year, but if I were then this would be where I would like to go with it.

Agreed, but people have to firstly agree to be nominated, and then put a campaign together. It's not like it's compulsory for everyone to do it. It's like any game, you know what's involved before you start, then you work out whether you can commit the time to it.

If you'd have been able to do it, you know that there are some people that would vote for you regardless of what you wrote, and others that wouldn't vote for you if you were the only candidate. It's the floaters where this game is won.

Lee. 06-03-2013 04:35 PM

Yeah, we'd better stop trying to plan Ben's game for him.. let him make the rules :)

Amy Jade 06-03-2013 04:36 PM

Can I nominate Jack_?

If there was no trouble with the game last time, and everyone enjoyed it who took part, then creating solutions for problems that haven't previously existed seems a bit mad to me.

So basically what you are saying is no matter how good/bad you are your mates will vote for you... and you can PM the rest of the forum and ask them to vote for you?... sorry but that sounds like a rubbish game.
And I'm sure that is what ben is wanting to avoid at all costs.

The rules are are in the OP :) They are more or less the same ones I devised when I created this event last year, and it went very well :) I do think Jack has good ideas which he has put forward on here, as you picked up on Lee as well.

I get the consensus about it being a popularity contest, but that's for the host to resolve.

I felt, in retrospect last year that it was a really good positive event and everyone enjoyed it, there was no arguing, it was lovely etc. The only drawback was that people were being asked to vote (which is fine, and all part of campaigning) and just agreeing and casting said vote without even knowing what it was all about. I don't know the answer to that, but Jack's idea might well ne the path to go down.

Thoughts?

Of course, but he has to accept and then someone has to second the nomination.

Yeah, basically. The definite Yes' and nos' are the strips at the edge, but you win the game by winning the block in the middle. Just like any election.

Don't worry - you're definitely not a floater.
