I doubt he cares. He's in total denial about it anyway: his view is he did more than any other football manager to advance black players.

And his view would be correct.

It does matter though.

There's a difference between using a word and using it in the context of a quote.

Don't you see, the PC brigade have restricted language to the point that context doesn't matter anymore. Even if you say something in context, it will now only be taken out of context, on its own.

Rob! 25-08-2013 12:23 AM

Just watched it..

Errr..

I do find it bizarre that they bleeped Carol using the word and then Big Brother said it uncensored. Maybe there's a rule about how many times they can use it?
I've got an issue with the fact about how private the conversation Carol and Louis were having - she was practically whispering. Carol dealt with it VERY well.

Turtle 25-08-2013 12:29 AM

I wish there was a proper Libertarian movement in the UK, so people could get of the poison teat of the sociopathic nanny state.

Rob! 25-08-2013 12:32 AM

The loose woman are going to be going ape at this on Monday :joker:

BigBuk 25-08-2013 01:08 AM

If she used the N bomb she should be warned, why couldn't she have said "he used the n word" or something along those lines? Fair warning, the words offensive, she should of known better.

So it's ok for Big Brother to say it when they quote someone else's use of the word

But it's not ok for Carol say it when she quote's someone else's use of the word

That makes sense!!

^ this.

It was absolutely ridiculous that Carol gets a formal warning for saying the word that BB then repeats :/ A reminder of the rules would have been better considering she was only quoting Ron, as BB did her

Not very well thought out BB :/

Scream 25-08-2013 01:54 AM

I, along with everyone else would understand if Carol directed it at someone but she didn't. It's ridiculous that we live in a world where we are banned from sayings words...if she wasn't saying it to be offensive I don't see what the problem is? She was quoting although maybe she could of done without saying what Ron actually said and could of just said he made a racist remark...in general I think we should be allowed to speak freely as long as we're not being offensive

It doesn't matter what context it was used in, Carol repeating the word Ron used could have caused offence to viewers hence the warning from BB, they weren't saying Carol was being racist by quoting Ron but there was still no need for her to repeat something that caused offence to a lot of people.

You don't say the word even if quoting someone. Not hard to just say "he said the n bomb". Fair warning.

Big Brother themselves quoted what Carol said.

They essentially warned/punished Carol for doing exactly what BB themselves did.

They can state an offensive word because it's in a reference/quote but Carol was doing exactly the same.

PC gone mad.

How is Carol saying the n word in reference any different to BB themselves quoting it back to Carol?

It's hypocritical and ridiculous.

erinp5 25-08-2013 04:41 AM

Ironic. Carol trying to bad mouth Ron by telling Louie what word he called someone and she used the same word!!!!! It's offensive .YOU DON'T USE THE WORD.

BeloTheBelt 25-08-2013 05:34 AM

Ok, my 2 pennyworth is that BB is hypocritical for warning Carol for using the N word and then broadcasting the full word themselves.
I also think people should maybe research Ron and what he said to be labelled a racist in the first place. Not defending him but It was a throwaway comment about a black footballer and he was trying to say that he needs to work really really hard for his team who were struggling in a match Ron was commentating on.his choice of words was unfortunate and foolish and I dont believe meant to be racist but merely the way old school people used to speak in the early 1970s (eg til death us do part), along the lines of "he needs to work like a N..... ". Its actually a compliment to black people suggesting that they work harder than other coloured skinned people.its just that the term used is not acceptable anymore as black people take offence to it...well, unless they call each other it, then its ok, apparantly.
Sorry if this offends anyone, i hope not, just trying to clarify

..I agree with you that it was completely hypocritical and wrong of BB to then repeat the word themselves when they had just warned Carol for relating the same thing..but it's not an 'old school' word, it was never and acceptable word and Till Death Do Us Part isn't the best analogy because Alf Garnett was portrayed as a complete racist and bigot...but I do agree that Ron probably used the word out of complete annoyance and frustration at the time and nothing else..

camertone 25-08-2013 09:25 AM

it has happened before, in bb8, emily also quoted the n word that somebody else used and then she was removed from the house immediately.

fingers 25-08-2013 09:31 AM

BB has 24 hours of House activities to create the 40 odd minutes of HLs . they chose to broadcast THAT solely so that they could create another RACISM IN BB headline in today's Sunday Scum.

Words by themselves are not a problem - it's the INTENTION behind them that makes all the the difference.

Calling someone a N- and meaning it is 100% seriously offensive, it doesn't get much worse.

But yesterday Carol used the word when quoting someone else. And Big Brother did exactly the same thing! Neither of them was 'being' racist, just quoting someone else's use of the word. But Carol got a warning for it. Will Big Brother now follow it's own logic and give itself the same warning it gave Carol ?!

How about all court cases that deal with racist abuse? Should the judge, police and prosecution all receive warnings every time they quote other people's use of the word?

Should we burn every hip hop album, every blaxploitation comedy, every novel that uses the word even when they are using it as a way of mocking and thereby exposing and disarming actual racism?

muchadoaboutnothing 25-08-2013 10:23 AM

Carol likes her drink (a bit like the other loose woman - Denese) and unfortunately can't control her emotions or actions. If Carol keeps drinking like it is tap water it will be the ruin of her (having said that Denese did go on to win so the drinking didn't do her any harm).

Emily didn't quote anyone. She said to Charlie "push it out, my ni**er".

Sunday Scum Headline:
Carol McGiffin gets N-word warning

MOUTHY TV star Carol McGiffin plunged Celebrity Big Brother into a race row just 24 hours after entering the house.

"Plunged into a race row"!!! :joker::joker::joker:

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/tv/big-br...N-word-warning

CaudleHalbard 25-08-2013 10:48 AM

Utterly ridiculous. It is one thing quoting someone and another actually using an offensive word to a person or about a person.

Anyway BB should give itself a formal warning for quoting Carol!!

Correct!..good call, but...hardly the storm they hoped for though Fingers!

CaudleHalbard 25-08-2013 11:04 AM

Hardly a 'race row' when it was just one housemate being told off by BB in the privacy of the diary room!

fingers 25-08-2013 11:05 AM

Hardly "Plunged into a Race Row" was it?
