Glenn Thomas, 49, a former BBC journalist, had been a media officer for the World Health Organisation in Geneva for more than a decade and was travelling to an International Aids Conference in Australia. Originally from Blackpool, he leaves behind his partner Claudio and sister Tracey. WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib said: "We have lost a wonderful person and a great professional. Our hearts are broken. They probably would have been unconscious pretty quick due to the change in air pressure......no consolation for what was to come but I just hope they were pretty unaware. Absolutely horrific...RIP

..it's always so hard for the people and loved ones left behind and trying to make sense of it all and come to terms with it all as to why a passenger plane was travelling over a warzone...

Any aircraft could have been unfortunate enough to be shot down... but it was a Malaysia Airlines plane that got shot down. You'd think after the tragedy earlier in the year they would be, of all airlines, so stringent about passenger safety that they would have been avoiding obvious death traps like flying over a country embroiled in a civil war... Madness...

This isn't a mystery, this is Russia trying to control their gas pipelines. If their mercenary thugs have to shoot down a civilian aircraft, so what? they have pipelines to defend. Emperor Putin has defended his people at great expense, pity the Emperor for having to make such tragic decisions for his glorious people's interests.
