Yeah it is, well it is with pencil - I just find it really time consuming and difficult! However with this painting it's been surprisingly smooth and easy going in regards to hair... It's mostly mark making and with oils and layers you can get away with just plotting random tones/being a bit messy to achieve a somewhat hair-like texture. I've loved doing this painting surprisingly considering how much I was dreading it and was afraid to do an oil for years - already got two more planned, one of Grace Jones and one of Joni Mitchell, just some images I saw that I loved! Probably won't be doing them until January or after though!

The painting as of today:

More hair texture on the "clown" side, the ears and some more drips and what not and it'll be finished. Oh yeah and the white background needs going over too and when that's dry I can add some individual hairs/"whisps" both sides to emphasise the hair.

...wow...it’s so, so good, LaLa......I’m a huge fan of your drawings, you have a gift for capturing people...but the oils have given a depth to it that puts the life into it so much...I haven’t seen the movie but how you’ve portrayed the character and the man, has a real empathy as well.../..almost a tenderness...I love it....

Oh wow thanks so much guys! Such nice things to say all of you and I really appreciate it. I’m looking forward to finishing it now, then in the new year start a new oil portrait! I think I’ve “got the bug” as they say now I’m over my initial fears!

Nearly at the end now, just finishing touches/tidying up left. Note the chaotic "work space" (dining room table) :joker: :

Mystic Mock 27-11-2019 08:10 AM

That looks scarily like Jacquin Phoenix as The Joker, LaLaLand, you've done a really good job of portraying his look.

And Zizu your art looks very unique in a good way.:)

I used to have an Etsy but closed it, just wasn't doing anything really. Commissions would depend on what you want and how big etc. Varies! DM me if you'd like to?

LaLaLand 04-12-2019 04:17 PM

It's finished anyway! I was going to add some more hair details and other stuff but decided against, knowing me I'd do something to ruin it in the final stage so I've left it. Very happy with how it looks considering I've never used oils before nor have I ever done a painting of this scale before (or anything other than small watercolour paintings for that matter).

Mystic Mock 05-12-2019 03:28 AM

That's very good LaLaLand, you've really got a lot of talent imo.

That also looks really good Oliver _W, it does look like a Comic that's about to come out and that's the cover for it.
