The colour purple - high on my list of movies I want to rewatch
The lost boys- I have been saying this one to Niamh for awhile now
Gone with the wind- because I have to rewatch it every 5 years or so :hehe:
Love Story (1970)- it has mixed reviews online, but I remember watching it once in the Late 90's and I had sever bronchitis and was a bit of a love sick fool, so I think I might like to view it again with a clear head

Oooh i love Lost Boys, i thought Corey Haim was the cutest boy back then:laugh:

I haven't seen the other 3 movies, so will look forward to it if one of them gets picked.

My suggestions would be:

Gremlins
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Pretty in Pink (never seen this film)

Great choices... I have Pretty in Pink on DVD and could rewatch it a 1000 times....so yes! And I have only seen Cuckoos Nest once on TCM but I missed the first bit.

Jamie89 29-04-2016 02:55 PM

All great suggestions (well I'm assuming so, I haven't seen most of them so I'll trust you ) I'll try and think of some too.

Oooh i really want to watch Pretty in Pink now!

One flew over the Cuckoos nest is brilliant, if it doesn't get chosen i'd recommend you watch it in full.:wavey:

In regards to your review, that whole line up scene apparently was meant to be serious but Benicio Del Torro farted at the start of it and all the actors couldn't stop laughing and they actually decided to use that instead, so alot of that scene isn't even acting

:laugh2:
the laughter made it that much more brilliant

Yeah, I didn't have a problem following it tbh

So my review:

Spoiler:

While I didn't quite know that the tale he was spinning for the detective was 100% made up... I guessed pretty early on that Verbal was Kaiser. Maybe I thought so because it's what I have come to expect of Kevin Spacey in movies, but I did not believe that it was Keaton at all. I didn't find the movie that hard to follow... except for trying to figure out wtf Benico Del Torro was saying, which apparently is mute because he was a write off character anyways. But over all I thought is was a great movie, and I loved the acting/actors in it.
I will give it a solid 7.7/10 cause I don't know that it deserves status in the 80% bracket. But it was enjoyable and I am glad our little club brought it up to watch

Mokka 30-04-2016 03:42 AM

Also... one more movie suggestion for the pile... that I thought of having while watching this one...

My Cousin Vinny- Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei are just divine in it an they put out the best acting in their careers

Just finished watching The Usual Suspects a couple of minutes ago:

Spoiler:

I was quite impressed! For a film that has such prestige it lived up to high expectations. For a person whose favourite films are amongst Legally Blonde, Mean Girls, Clueless, etc. crime films are actually my guilty pleasure :p

At first I wasn't too sure if I was going to like the film. It normally frustrates me when I can't understand the plot or get a clear idea on the basic structure and what may happen, and there were some random moments I didn't really get what was going on. However, it's definitely one of those films that you come to appreciate once it has finished.

I had already watched the ending of the film before even know what the film was about since I was ware of how famous the end scene was. I'm sorta sad that I did know what was going to happen at the end but it was still amazing nonetheless. It was such a clever idea, and I don't think plot twists were that prominent back in the 80's (I may be completely wrong, lmao). My heart literally skipped a beat when Kujan dropped his mug and realised he'd told lies based on the reports on the wall.

The acting was good. It was pretty cool to see Stephen Baldwin, as all I cold think about afterwards was 'omg he was in Celebrity Big Brother'. Kevin Spacey was fantastic, but he's pretty fantastic in any film. This may have just cemented Spacey as one of my all-time favourite male actors tbh.

Everything from the boat scene playing out onwards was amazing. I still can't believe Verbal was Keyser Soze, like I saw it coming but when the detective said Keaton may have been him it kind of threw me off a little. Keyser Soze as a character actually scared me a little bit :joker:

edit: Ooh I forgot the rating.

I will give The Usual Suspects 8/10

Spoiler:

Mean Girls to be the next Classic Movie :clap1:  (That would literally be soooo fetch!)

It's interesting that it was your first watch yet you knew the twist, and you still enjoyed it (and the mug dropping moment still had a kick). I remember thinking the first time I watched it that it would have taken a lot of the enjoyment away if I had have known about it.

Yaaas Mean Girls

Yeah it kind of did, but I never really understood the movie as a whole at the time (at all actually). All I really knew was that some cripple suddenly become able-bodied just after the detective discovered something :joker:

I was still quite shocked he was Kaiser, despite the fact it became quite obvious at the very end.

rubymoo 01-05-2016 12:50 PM

I'm glad everyone has watched The Usual Suspects, and it's great reading all the reviews:) we just need to get a list of movies together for our next movie to watch after Bank Holiday Monday.

Have a great weekend peeps

Jamie89 01-05-2016 03:31 PM

I don't mind what we watch next but I'll add to the suggestions and throw in Terminator 2 (yes it's more of a classic than 1, imo :hee:), Pulp Fiction and The Shining.

rubymoo 01-05-2016 08:47 PM

Ohhh i like Pulp Fiction and The Shining, i was going to watch them as they're on my NowTV package, but i shall wait to watch them as one of them may be our next movie:hee:

(And i love the Terminator films!)

Braden 01-05-2016 09:02 PM

I've recently watched Pulp Fiction and I absolutely love it. One of my favourite films ever. The Shining is fantastic too, and I haven't watched that in a while.

I might throw out a suggestion - The Craft. I've always wanted to watch it ever since I was a kid when we used take films out from Choices, but my mum would never let me because of the age restriction :p

The Craft is one of my all time favourite films  (and so weird you suggested it as I nearly put it on about an ago)... I don't know if it would count as a 'classic' though to be honest? I don't know, depends what everyone else thinks, and how rigidly we're sticking to the 'classic' theme  But if we don't you should definitely watch it anyway, it's great!

Alf 01-05-2016 09:15 PM

I'd like to see people review Mulholland Drive, now that's a film that will make you think (that's if you get what's going on), I'm sure people will take different things from that film and people will have differing opinions of the film. It's also probably one of the greatest pieces of motion picture in the 21st century.

I nominate that, if not then Sling Blade.

Oh that's true, lmao. I'll stick with the 'classic' theme when I suggest in the future :p

I'll definitely watch it sooner or later. I saw the trailer last night and think that I'll probably love it.

rubymoo 01-05-2016 10:37 PM

The Craft is a good film Braden - a proper teen flick (even though i'm 40 and still like it :hee:)

Never seen Mulholland Drive, i'll put it on my to watch list!

Ammi 02-05-2016 06:18 AM

..I'll put a list in the OP of all those suggested so far and Braden, I would be cool with Mean Girls because it's a movie that I've never seen so it would be a good reason to finally watch it...I'll also suggest Jaws..(the first one..)..., Thelma and Louise, Silence of the Lambs, Tootsie and Rain Man...

rubymoo 02-05-2016 07:17 AM

Wow there's a superb list of film suggestions, can't wait to see which one gets picked :hee:

Good to see you back Ammi

:o You're in for a treat with Mean Girls, Ammi

I've always wanted to watch Thelma and Louise too, and have never watched The Silence of the Lambs in its entirety so that would be great as well.

DrunkerThanMoses 02-05-2016 12:18 PM

Saw Themlma and Louise 2 weeks ago lol

Jamie89 02-05-2016 07:28 PM

Omg, so many great films in the OP  How are we choosing the next one? There aren't any that I feel like I don't want to watch so I don't mind what gets picked.
