I thought it was ok, but nothing amazing, I don’t get what all the hype is about? I haven’t seen any of the other films so does that play a part?

But then if it does surely a film should be able to be good on its own merits rather than bc it’s part of a franchise?

Idk, anyway, it was ok, but nothing different to any other slasher film out there

ALSO I hate when films have really illogical/unexplained things in them, like how he just wouldn’t die?

Yes, every film of the series bar the original and H20 were panned and are generally crap. So the fact we have a really good new Halloween movie is a bit of a miracle tbh.

I thought it was very good, I liked the subtext of the film and
Spoiler:

The role reversal at the end with Laurie essentially pulling off all the horror villain tropes against Micheal.

I kinda think it's a film that's equally smart and dumb though as I thought the characters made too many dumb decisions to facilitate the plot and I think they made him a bit too unstoppable and overly strong at parts.

Spoiler:

A man in his 60's who has been inactive for 40 years is not going to throw around people like he does at the petrol station and such. I think they made him too Jason-esque at parts when he should have been threatening because of how smart of a character he is when it comes to stalking his victims. Him being fine after being run over at full speed was also silly.

Also scenes like Alison's dad going out of the safehouse that was Laurie's home to investigate an obviously suspicious car made me roll my eyes. Horror films require it's characters to make mistakes but they don't have to make dumb ones.

I liked the themes of trauma and empowerment though and outside of the spotty horror film logic writing, I thought the writing overall was pretty good as was the direction.

I'd say it's a solid 8/10.

I don't need a sequel though, I thought that was the perfect place to end it.

An enjoyable film but I can't really take Jamie Lee-Curtis seriously she is kind of comedic?

Mess there was a sequel with Tyra Banks and Busta Rhymes :skull: and in it Michael kills Laurie so what that didn’t happen anymore?

None of the sequels have any connection to the new movie. Halloween (2018) is a direct sequel to Halloween (1978) there is even a nod towards Halloween ll where Allyson says Laurie being Michaels sister is BS, that plot was added in Halloween ll.

Resurrection is terrible though.

Just watched this on Netflix.

I thought the last 30/40 minutes were really intense and enjoyable, but the rest of the film was quite boring to get through. Jamie Lee Curtis was brilliant, though.
