Did it take me catching onto how pressed you are about gay representation to realise that, or were you under the impression I knew you until I pointed it out?

You're "kinda" LGBT, you've said, congratulations. LGBT people can still hate gay people. If you're defending the use of a slur, it's "kinda" prejudiced towards the group the slur's directed to

Its something that happened over a year ago and is unrelated to BB and he shouldnt be judged on his time in the house on that.

I dont see people judging Kayleigh on wanting to kill a cat

sampvt 06-06-2017 04:57 PM

why are we being inundated by gay issues this early. Pathetic

The Shooting at Pulse Nightclub didn't happen because Queen Chuff of Equality over here has told us all that Homophobia no longer exists!

Evidently not diverse enough to know these exist

The fact remains that we know nothing about him. Has he changed? God knows. Why did he use it in such a context? God knows. We can only presume he hasn't changed (we don't really have reason to believe otherwise), and I don't know him but I don't see why or how he'd come to accept lgbt+ people in a year after 20 years of life he grew up to believe it's acceptable to use a homophobic slur

ok tbh I don't even remember who Kayleigh is but when did she say that?

Because that is exactly what he meant

MB. 06-06-2017 05:02 PM

I've been inundated with more than a few gay issues in my time, let me tell you

I was replying to the person who said they only existed in the 1930s. I know the guy in question never meant it that way, I ain't a moron you know?

Alf 06-06-2017 05:05 PM

Can you still use the word moron? it's hard to keep up these days, with what's right and wrong

Guuki 06-06-2017 05:12 PM

Uff so there is a chance he might be ejected.

Dan. 06-06-2017 05:16 PM

I'd say that Tom's use of the word is born out of ignorance rather than out-and-out homophobia.

Calling someone a 'f*ggot' or saying 'that's so gay' is ignorant undoubtedly but it's very rarely meant in an explictly homophobic context, it's just an ignorant expression

His use of the word is not something I'd condone but by bringing up his previous tweets people are looking for a subtext that doesn't exist

Jian Yang 06-06-2017 05:18 PM

I took a instant dislike to Tom. I don't know why i just think he has potential to be a nasty piece of work!

I'm sure you're fine with moron as it's never been used in a derogatory way towards minority groups.

Vicky. 06-06-2017 05:20 PM

Why the **** dont contestants hide their twitters when they go in. They know people trawl back years in some cases looking for stuff

I can't really comment on this too much. If outsiders looked into some of my private convos with friends we would be ripped apart. Having said that I would never say much of the stuff I say on a public platform when I know other people could possibly read in and be offended. For example, 'fag' is seen almost as a term of endearment by one of my gay mates (genuinely, he introduces himself to people as 'the fag**t of the group' too which has caused so much hell on in the past). I am apparently his 'fag hag'. But I know others would take so much offense to even hear those terms so I don't use them outside our group :/

It wouldn't surprise me much if he turned out to be a raging homophobe but tbh thats me stereotyping :S

Apparently moron is offensive to those with mental health issues/learning disabilities. I was advised last week on mumsnet (yes, mumsnet, laugh it up the rest of ya  )

I was going to say pretty much this Vick, I have a gay friend who I call every offensive name under the sun and he does the same back.. there's literally no line to be crossed.
However, would I do it publicly on Twitter? Probably not. And I also have to say that other than to him, I would NEVER use such language in normal everyday language.

Really? I would never say the R word or the M word when referring to a stupid person, but I've always thought moron just applied to a person who hasn't got much get up and go?

IDK. Apparently moron used to be used to describe those with learning disabilities or something. So they told me. I didn't care enough to actually check as I do think that if we were to avoid every single term that every single person found offensive, chances are the english language would cease to exist...

OK..it seems I was a bit hasty in writing this off as a one person taking offense thing.

Changing the way language is used: Words like ‘idiot’, ‘spastic’ ‘moron’ and ‘imbecile’ were medical terms used years ago to talk about people with learning disabilities. It is not ok for people to use these words.
Mind, 3 years ago and 1.5k supporters who probably didn't even read the actual text  Idiot is offensive?!

Yeah that's a lot of pish... a spastic has never been somebody with learning disabilities! It was a medical term for somebody with physical disabilities like cerebral palsy.. my cousin was born with severe disabilities (over 50 years ago) and he was referred to as a spastic
And idiot is just daft too!
