That's true.I had a school friend who was born in England but when i went round his gaff he'd slip into a strong Irish accent when he spoke to his parents.I almost couldn't understand him sometimes it was so strong.

Yeah i know a guy who's parents are both Irish but him and his sister were born and raised in England, he's got an Irish accent and she has a real English one

She was dancing as they all were
Can someone explain how that's racist or have I misread

lewis111 25-07-2017 04:20 PM

The race of these 2 girls is brought up constantly in a negative way in this form it's horrible to see people still so I uncomfortable with black people being comfortable with their skin colour and heritage
Always called racist yet they've never made any comment about disliking someone based on colour

Yeah. This lad was born and raised in England and spoke in an English accent whenever he was at school or out and about. It was only when he was at home or with his parents that he went full blown Irish.Surprised me at first.

I don't think it's this forum, I think it's 2 or 3 certain posters who get away with it all the time.

I had a quick look at the recent user ban and I doubt it will be an issue anymore :hehe:

The accent thing I find so weird. I mean, your accent is your accent. You do not have 2 accents, so you have a natural one and then a fake one. I don't get why people would put on an accent D: Unless trying to imitate an accent, but then why, unless for joke reasons and such

Northern Monkey 25-07-2017 04:26 PM

Hannah and Deborah annoyed me quite abit tbh through the series bringing up race and making it some kind of issue that wasn't there.I've grown to like Deborah(when she's not constantly taking in her African accent) but not Hannah at all.For me Hannah has no redeeming qualities.

I don't know, some people tend to pick up accent really easily. One of my best friends is Australian and i swear everytime we go out drinking she develops an Irish accent

I don't know.I think my friend genuinely did have two accents.I've never come accross the phenomenon since with anyone but it seemed completely natural.I don't think he was faking it.

You don't just flop between them though. I know people can pick up accents fast but...it would be mixed. Not English one minute then broad Scottish the next :D

You fall into line with those around you. Its just human nature. I speak slower and articulate more clearly normally, and then when I go back up north, I adjust accordingly.

Try going in to a bar in Scotland and asking for a pint of bitter and see what happens

Was it like...when he got angry a different one came out? or when he was pissed. That i can understand a bit mroe but when its just random..I dont udnerstand

I was reading about someone the other day actually who had a car accident and then spoke in a Liverpool accent afterwards for the rest of her life, despite never having set foot in Liverpool

No nothing like that.Just a home accent and an accent for being out with friends. It was weird.I suppose he could've learned to talk with his Irish accent due to his parents but then later in nursery/school picked up an English accent but just reverted around his parents.I really don't know tbh.

Garfie 25-07-2017 07:33 PM

I think accents are adapt to fit in with those around you, and in order to communicate more clearly and effectively. I think it's a subconscious thing.

My mum was born in London and.lived there till she was 10. She then moved to manchester and had the piss took out if her so adopted the manc accent (albeit posher than mine lol). She sounded totally northern until she got pissed or seriously angry. I was.often shouted at in a london accent and it made me laugh and get bollocked more.

I don't think it was conscious though she did just switch

chuff me dizzy 25-07-2017 08:07 PM

We are not talking accents, we are talking stomping about chanting like a maniac

Vicky. 25-07-2017 08:11 PM

The chanting genuinely reminded me of this
