Joker's use of a Gary Glitter song
has been heavily criticised

[And, viewers have now been left deeply unimpressed with
the use of Glitter's 1972 'Rock and Roll Part 2' in one scene.]

Don't agree with that, the song didn't commit the crime. I like the film Chinatown, and I'm not gonna stop liking it just because it's a Roman Polanski film. I can dislike Polanski the person for his crimes, but it doesn't mean I have to miss out on his films.

Before they banned him.

Watched this last night and holy ****! Not only is this the best film of the year, it's a strong contender for best film of the decade, as well as the greatest comic book film of all time.

Everything about this film was perfect and Joaquin's performance is simply out of this world! He better win an Oscar.

A lot of Americans seem to think it will inspire another aurora type situation. But..thats a bad way to think really as it is shifting the blame from the psycho onto a film.

...I read that earlier...the earnings from soundtrack songs vary a huge amount and Gary Glitter has no star or celebrity ‘power’ at all...so I’m thinking he’ll only earn a very minimal amount from the song being used...

This was so so GOOD, I wanna see it again.

Not difficult to be better than that bloated and overrated fan-wank.

Marsh. 07-10-2019 09:10 PM

So glad this is good though. Going to see it on Friday. :flutter:

To answer Marc's question on the previous page which contains a minor spoiler.

Spoiler:

I don't think he killed her. At that point in the movie, he had a moral compass, I don't think he'd have killed a decent person like Sophie. He allowed Gary to live, so clearly he had some sense of compassion left for decent people.

Beastie 07-10-2019 10:55 PM

It was okay. Phoenix played a good joker but I was expecting more from the film. Wasn't dark or twisted enough for me

Vanessa 08-10-2019 12:55 AM

Wow, that was amazing! I really enjoyed it.
Joaquin phoenix was just incredible. What a performance! That's some of the best acting I've ever seen. :clap1:

Vanessa 08-10-2019 01:14 PM

So teh movie is really well made. It captures the feel of Gotham city perfectly.
But the best thing in it is Joaquin Phoenix. He really takes you on a journey in this. Towards the end I was feeling really unsettled.

Niamh. 08-10-2019 01:19 PM

Going to see it tonight

Vanessa 08-10-2019 01:22 PM

Didn't know Robert de Niro was in it. That's the cherry on top. He's always fantastic.

Alf 08-10-2019 01:24 PM

I'll wait for the dvd. I'm in no rush to see it.

I love Heath Ledger and honestly if some of the stuff I read about joaquin Phoenix are true then he's not a nice person so I really want to say Heath was better but he wasn't. Heath played the joker better than anyone in the past but Joaquin played him so so well I doubt he could ever be surpassed he made him sympathetic, disturbed, kind, unpredictable, cruel all in one go

Joaquin phoenix is such a talented actor. I think he was amazing on Joker. This is an Oscar worthy performance. But I also like Heath ledger and Jack Nicholson jokers

I’m intrigued, what have you read to make you think that? Just curious.
