Obviously you are opposed.. have you watched the arrests being made? Vicars, men and women in their 80s, the disabled, doctors... you can't blame the protestors for criminal activity that would happen regardless :/

Via technology? So if you agree with the protestors you shouldn't be using technology, should they be living in a mud hut dressed in banana leaves?

No, they're pointing out you're missing the point. Which every post you make continues to prove. :hee:

Very serious issues and probable chaos.
Really worrying times.
I agree with you.

Plus this is 'serious' debates section after all.

I'm 39 and I remember... twosugars is hurtling towards 40, so he should remember at least some of those things.

OMG Livia ,so pleased to see you back :wavey: I remember coal fires too, a lot of people have got rid of them, but the alternative also is not good for the environment,so what do these people want us to do ?

None of us should, nor be driving etc, etc,it's almost impossible to achieve. and maybe if we lived in a mud hut dressed in banana leaves we can survive, but we'de have to light fires to keep warm and cook which uses wood and the smoke is not good for the environment so what is the answer ?

Dismantle capitalism & eat the rich obvs

Oliver_W 14-10-2019 02:22 PM

Wtf happened to my thread :( I wanted this to be about things that environmental groups could be doing that're actually constructive, I didn't want it to be about such groups in general, or a "bitch about this member" thread :(

Well unless you're contradicting yourself that's what you suggested, that the protestors were diverting resources and that's why they've lost your support ergo you are now opposed to the protest.

What exactly are you saying then? :/

Ive attempted to explain this many times... it's bigger than a societal issue now. Yes energy efficiency will help but the problem will remain unless there is governmental shifts to support green initiatives globally.

Livia 14-10-2019 05:59 PM

The protesters are assuming that everyone else doesn't care about the planet and we need these people to bat home the message. We don't. If you don't know what the government is doing, or what your local council is doing on green issues, find out. I don't know anyone who isn't committed to helping the fight. So we don't need these people making arses of themselves with fire engines to highlight the issue for us.

The best way to help the planet recover would be to reduce the population. Of course, we wouldn't get far into the discussion before Nazis were mentioned, but that's not what I'm talking about.

So it's up to me to save the world cherie because I advocate for it? That's fuzzy logic.
If I could afford one I might, atm I have a 1.0 Nissan Micra. Do you need a breakdown of all my energy efficiency cherie, or will that do?

If we all do our bit and then a little bit more, it would help in a small way.
If everybody took their shopping out of trays etc at the checkout, causing hold ups etc then maybe the supermarkets would rethink their packaging a bit more swiftly.
So many little things we can do really.

That's true, Smudgie. I take containers shopping, also, Morrisons now provide paper bags for fruit and veg instead of plastic ones. I think most of us already do stuff, and I would and do support shops and businesses committed to reducing plastic.

Also... I try to buy fruit and veg in season instead of buying stuff that's had to be flown round the world.
