He's had plenty of time to step down. They moan - probably with good reason - about the British tabloids, but both of them are happy to court the press if they need to. They should go if they want to... but they can leave all the money.

I think Meghan is about as good for the royal family as the last American divorcee who pitched up.

That's why it is a bit have your cake and eat it because they have enjoyed the benefits of their status when it's suited them and they still do intend to benefit from it by using his father's money and retaining their titles and property. They're also more than happy to have media coverage providing its all on their terms and totally uncritical

True, I'd rather they did it properly and gave up the titles and inherited money/status along with everything else.

I don't think it's a problem that they want to remain public figures though, there's a big difference between doing that as THEMSELVES, and having to toe the Royal line.

The Slim Reaper 09-01-2020 11:56 AM

If you're born a royal at Harry's level, then it's pretty impossible to just give up everything, cut ties, and receive no benefits. As ex military and a royal, he'd be a huge prize for terrorists. That's obviously not only unacceptable to his family, but to the presentation of the country as a whole.

I'm not even a royalist, but not sure what people are expecting from them. He's not the first man to make decisions for the benefit of his family, so not sure it's an issue that has to be either "she's ruined him" or "he's an under the thumb cuck".

They want to step back from the limelight and royal duties, whilst still supporting the Queen.
Sounds good to me.
No doubt they will both carry on with their charities, plus they want to be financially independent. Can’t fault them.

Livia 09-01-2020 12:10 PM

They also want to keep the money from the Duchy of Cornwall and retain their titles and royal homes. If they want to leave... leave. It was only a matter of time till Meghan wanted to go back to California. They want to go.... let them go... and I hope the press ignore them entirely.

Kazanne 09-01-2020 12:13 PM

I remember clearly Anne Widdecome on CBB saying Megan was trouble, and she was brushed aside for the comment,I wonder if those people think the same now, I do think the press should totally give them a wide berth and just let them leave, they cant have the benefits of royalty if they are rejecting it.

When anyone goes against the royal family they get dealt with. It's like a posh version of the mafia. There is trouble ahead for Harry and Meghan, this won't go down well at all.

Their whole statement is the biggest load of BS you can read

Prince Philip i bet read if and turned the air blue

I think she was called more than that. A racist and a bigot, as I recall. Because you aren't allowed to dislike someone if they're black, apparently. Even though there are, per head of capita, as many black idiots as white idiots.

Megan maybe, they don't go after their own. Plenty of royal black sheep.

That's true , she was called all sorts, I do remember some people getting their knickers in a right twist over it , I do wish them peace and happiness but somehow I don't think it will be very easy for them .

Not sure how this is "trouble" nor why you would think Harry regards the press as a "benefit" of being a Royal.

Tbf the Widdecombe situation goes above and beyond any comments about Meghan. She came out with bigoted language more often than she breathed.

Whatever is going on with Meghan doesn't suddenly mean Widdecombe is not racist or homophobic or any other ignorant remark she has come out with.
