Yes, I know. The depiction of slavery itself is not grounds for it being removed. Contextually, it is correct. It is the PORTRAYAL of it, glamourising and using stereotypes. Hence why HBO Max said when it returns they hope they can have more balanced material alongside it that depict the REALITY of slavery that isn't romanticised in a Hollywood epic. |
I think the question you all need to ask yourselves is.."can intentional blackfacing be seen as funny"
|
It's a bit like Karen-like to want everything banned that makes one choose to feel "offended"

fiction and reality are 2 different things so yes i can understand the PC world is bothering some people so yeah reality shows like Cops ok fair to ban that but yeah i guess it's more the ''based upon real life'' term overall i find this a very difficult, complicated matter |

The answer they should get is the same answer the places hosting the other comedies in question should have given - get a grip and watch something else. |
Let's start a list of things we can't laugh about. We can have people with no sense of humour police it, and tell us what we should and shouldn't find insulting.

In The Office - the entire POINT of The Office - is that Brent isn't telling jokes that are funny ... Brent is the joke. And even then it's not intended that he's a joke to be laughed at - he's a joke to be pitied, because he does these things to try to impress people and make people like him... he tries to be "a friendly funny guy" because he's sad and lonely. But people don't think he's funny. His jokes are completely misjudged and fall flat. They think he's awkward and sexist/racist/whatever. That's literally the whole show. |

but anyway it goes a bit too far now, comedies for example are meant for light entertainment purposes, not to be taken serious the only ones going too far for me personally are some stand up comedians but then again i never have been a huge fan of stand up comedy with all honesty |

I think there's stuff in Little Britain that can pass in a stand-up comedy but not in a mainstream TV show. And lots of things in stand-up that just can't and shouldn't be in mainstream (essentially) "family telly". Me and my wife say and laugh about things at home that we would not in public. Me and my friends say things in WhatsApp groups that we would never say on a public forum or open social media. No one is telling you what you're privately allowed to find funny or what you "should" find insulting. You can disagree with someone and still have consideration for them. |

The Major was (sort of) discussing the difference between N-words and "w*gs" (I've only ever head that word on Fawlty Towers, not counting Gollywog dolls,so I guess it's outdated?) and even the bigoted Basil was trying to change the subject to shut him up :laugh |
