Golden Globes and Grammys ratings were also way down this year.

Oscar ratings have been declining for years - one of the reasons I have seen suggested (for the previous decline) is that people get so much info on celebrities now from social media whereas back in the day the Oscars were the one time to see big names in real life. Actors have lost their star status.

Might be no harm tbh

Hollywood is finished.

Trump rallies are the hottest ticket in town right now.

And more are on the way.

That's what the people want.

Right wing snowflakes gonna snowflake, I guess.

I wish Promising Young Woman got more attention, I've not seen Nomadland but, admittedly, Frances McDormand seems to be doing what she does best. I'd have liked to have seen Carey Mulligan get the Oscar.

It's a shame they didn't give the Oscar to Chadwick Boseman too, but I'm glad Daniel Kaluuya got recognition.

Are you enjoying watching the swamp being drained?

Tom4784 27-04-2021 02:11 PM

I enjoy Trump supporters reliving the failures of their false god over and over, the delusion is very entertaining.

Oliver_W 28-04-2021 07:56 AM

To be fair you don't need to be a Trumpster to find it cringey when very rich celebs use a circle-jerk award show to screech on and on about politics.

But also to be fair, only a handful of movies actually came out, and hardly anyone saw half of them. The fact that most of the films were "ones no-one cares about" was probably almost as influential in the drop in viewing figures as the political droning.

Marsh. 28-04-2021 11:22 AM

Yet, you watched.

As already said elsewhere, the decline in viewing figures has been happening for a long time and it has a lot more to do with the fact you can see celebrities and movie stars all the time these days, unlike the days when film premieres and awards shows were the one chance to see them all together.

I didn't watch it, I looked a list of the results, and found clips of the bits I care about :joker:

1980 Oscars 31m viewers

2019 Oscars scored 29.6m viewers

2021 9.8m

Tom4784 28-04-2021 02:40 PM

Well, you see, there's this little thing that's been happening as of late called a global pandemic. This little pandemic thing has pretty much closed many avenues of entertainment down world wide for long periods of time, causing many big films and contenders to essentially skip the year which meant that most of the nominees were films that were nominated that weren't seen by most people.

It's basic common sense, really, but we can't expect that much from right wing blue tick snowflake commentators that make out that lower ratings for an award show is somehow the end of liberalism.

bots 28-04-2021 04:28 PM

i don't think many would consider the oscars important this year for obvious reasons. Celebs patting themselves on the back never floated my boat, and I think many felt the same at least this year

So you're whinging about something you haven't watched. Same point.
