Donating books is not "buying her own".

Ammi 29-06-2021 06:29 PM

…lovely article about her donations anyway…

She bought them, and that is then the charities donation, she now gets to keep all the cash herself from the rest of the sales.

She and the publisher donated them.

I know you're CRAVING dirt but trying in anyway to make a good deed like this come across as a negative says a lot about you, and nothing about her.

"Archewell is partnering with nonprofit First Book to distribute the books around the country"

Look into american laws regarding charitable donations.

She can now keep 95 percent of the sales for herself now that shes donated 5 percent of the product.

Beso 29-06-2021 07:05 PM

Not such the charitable queen she would have you believe.

Captain.Remy 29-06-2021 07:17 PM

I see we now shame people who donate books :skull: That is a new low, even for TIBB

if its a cynical PR exercise yes

surely you would too?

Beso 29-06-2021 07:26 PM

It's a cynical tax dodge involving the profits of the book.

…there is nothing cynical about her actions, only a choice to interpret as cynical…

In a statement posted to their Archewell website, Harry and Meghan announced: "The Duchess and Archewell have received the support of the publisher of The Bench to distribute 2,000 copies at no cost to libraries, community centres, schools, and non-profit programs across the country.

"Those receiving free copies include vital organisations like Assistance League of Los Angeles, which has served the local community for more than 100 years and which The Duke and Duchess visited twice last year to spend time with the children at the organisation’s Preschool Learning Center.

"To make this happen, Archewell is working with the team at First Book, a non-profit social enterprise that’s distributed more than 200 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving kids in low-income communities in the United States and Canada. Reaching an average of 5 million kids per year, the First Book Network operates in classrooms, after-school programs, libraries, community programs, military support programs, and more."

The plan is part of Meghan's desire to help "nourish" local communities in various ways.

The Archewell statement explained: "As Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex’s debut children’s book, 'The Bench', releases worldwide, she and her husband, Prince Harry, along with all of us at Archewell are taking a moment to recognise and support the amazing changemakers who are fostering community, compassion, and connection for every child.

"After more than a year of unprecedented challenges for schoolkids and families everywhere, The Duchess believes the path ahead must include a focus on well-being—and nourishing our communities through food, education, and emotional and mental health support.

"At Archewell, that is often centered on food and essential needs (as evidenced by our partnership with organisations like World Central Kitchen) but also nourishment through learning and connection (as seen in The Duchess’s support of last year’s Save With Stories initiative to raise funds for educational resources like books, toys, and worksheets)."

Yep, it comes from a lot of assumption that people think the way they do.

jet 30-06-2021 12:05 AM

Meghan got an advance of 250,000 to 500,000 dollars for a book of verses she wrote that have been described by some reviewers as ‘semi - literate’ and which someone else illustrated. It was a commercial enterprise to line her own pocket, not a charitable one.
She talks a lot of hot air about ‘nourishing communities’ and ‘one act of compassion at a time’ and other empty platitudes but doesn’t do any, you know, actual WORK on the ground or follow her own preaching. She’s all profitable talk, publicity stunts and very little action. Smart and sly enough to reel certain poeple in, hook, line and sinker. She knows her target audience. Fair play, I suppose, for as long as her shelf life lasts.

Ammi 30-06-2021 06:23 AM

…the media really don’t know at all any of the details of a book deal…those are personal things that would have been agreed to stay personal, I would say…it’s all just the same old/same old speculation… ‘ the Duchess is likely to have already secured £500,000 for the venture’…. ‘It is not officially known whether Meghan received an advance for the book from the publishers, Penguin Random House LLC.’….’but an ‘expert’ has suggested’…etc, etc…the irony of the tabloids taking a critical stance with anyone else’s writing style is just too much and too funny when so much of theirs is just the power of suggestion and word manipulation into the articles that they would like to be writing so just suggest them as possible articles instead…

…anyways, all a great result for Meghan and hopefully more books from her in the future…

thesheriff443 30-06-2021 06:24 AM

They need to find 250 thousand a year for the equivalent of council tax.

They want other people’s money for the charity not their own all the time promoting themselves has saints

thesheriff443 30-06-2021 06:26 AM

Of course there will be more books and any thing else that can turn a profit.

HOW DARE SHE MAKE A LIVING! WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS?!

Again, bizarre hatred. Hating someone for having a career is ****ing bizarre and quite unhinged. It just makes no sense.

Meghan's uncle talks about her estrangement from HER father....

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...s-aged-82.html
09:05, 1 July 2021

Meghan Markle's ex-diplomat uncle Michael has died at the age of 82 without 'ever meeting Prince Harry', it has been reported.

Michael Markle - who was known as Mike and is the older brother of Meghan's father Thomas - had been battling Parkinson's disease and had suffered falls in recent years.
'Mike was a lovely, gentle, softly spoken old man,' a source told The Sun. 'He was always happy to be asked about Meghan, but whenever he spoke to anyone he mainly wanted to talk about his late wife - he loved her so much.'
After his wife passed away, Mike is believed to have moved from his home in Oregon to be closer to his daughter where, despite his illness, he maintained his independence living in a trailer community, according to a source…..

Mike used his influence to secure Meghan a prestigious internship as a junior press officer at the American embassy in Argentina when she was 20 and considering a career in international relations….

'Meghan has climbed socially and left us behind — that's how I feel,' said Mike. 'I think that's what happens when you're 'underclass' and trying to rise above
the reality of your situation.'

Coming from her background, she may have a chip on her shoulder,' he said of Meghan. 'It could be that that's part of the problem she's having with her sister-in-law. Meghan is immature in some ways.
'I feel that because of the way she acts — not only towards family members, but other people.'

He also went on to blame Meghan's father for her strong character.
'It could be that she's bossy towards staff because she's been spoilt by my brother,' Mike said. 'He doted on her a lot — more than he did his other children…..
Mike tried nudging Meghan to reopen communication with her dad when he told the Express in 2020: “Meghan famously said, 'Not many people have asked if I'm OK.’ She would do well in this time of a genuine crisis to ask her dad if he is OK.
"People of my age and Tom's are dying due to the virus. There's nothing wrong with being courteous.

"It's about time she should try to mend any differences she has with family before it is too late. I think that she should be in touch with her dad."

I couldn’t agree more. So much for her book the Bench honouring fathers everywhere.

Captain.Remy 01-07-2021 10:23 AM

Her relationship with her father is nobody's business but their own.

And also: the Daily Mail as a source? Really? in 2021?
