Oh just a quick point TS Chris Rock wasn't actually the Presenter, he was just presenting an award

I don't think many people know much other information about the ceremony, hardly anyone was watching. They just saw someone tweet out what Will Smith did and the games began.

The joke was cruel but it was still a joke and that's exactly what Chris Rock gets paid to do.

Assault is never OK. Will could have defended his wife perfectly well without lifting a hand.

It was only cruel if it was known about her condition, as far as we know Rock didn't know.
That hairstyle is quite fashionable at the moment so it couldn't really be assumed it was necessary.

Award shows are well known thanks to Gervais for upsetting and offensive comments by hosts.
As you said Smith could've found another way to support his wife.

Apparently EVERYONE in showbiz or who even casually follows showbiz news would know about her Alopecia . She’s apparently been very public about it to raise the general awareness since 2018

You can't say EVERYONE on Showbiz knew, obviously not everyone knew

It’s a ‘saying’ .. it seems ridiculous that such a high profile comedian who makes a living out of jokes about people and their situations didn’t know about her well documented condition.

Chris Rock and the Smith family have ‘history’ as well which makes it even more likely that he knew but made a bad error of judgment.

It later emerged that there was more to the story, as Chris had previously also cracked a joke about Jada at the Oscars. The comedian, who was hosting the Oscars in 2016, had roasted Jada's efforts to boycott the award ceremony. She had made a video announcing she was boycotting the 2016 Oscars as 'no persons of colour were nominated' in any of the major acting categories, which included her husband Will.

He made a joke about Jada boycotting the Oscar's while he was hosting the Oscar's, its hardly "targeting" them. He's a Comedian joking about Celebrities at a celebrity event, that is literally his job and that was 6 years ago

bots 31-03-2022 07:16 PM

it doesnt matter whether chris knew about her condition or not. He is a comedian, there to tell jokes and roast a few celebs. The fact that some didn't find it funny, doesn't give them the right to then assault him. That's the plain truth of the matter

Swan 31-03-2022 08:14 PM

I guarantee had The Rock made that joke Will wouldn't have reacted like that whether Jada liked it or not.

Meaning Will Smith is scared of The Rock ?. It seems Will Smith & Chris Rock aren't as close as they use to be , maybe that's another reason.

Well yeah, I don't reckon Will would have been so aggressive had it been someone like The Rock. Chris Rock is like 5"6 and weighs about 9 stone probably.

Yeah probably , Dwayne Johnson is huge ... he's a chilled out guy though.

Can resonate with both sides tbh. It was a poor joke especially if it was something that Chris was aware of (maybe it wasn’t?) but Will was definitely still wrong to go up and slap him but I can understand his anger.

On a side note, security must be really crap at these events if anyone can just walk up on stage and hit somebody?
