It was on the news in this country a few years back,it’s called bush meat, they cook the animals whole with fur on and all of its organs still inside it.

They eat basically every single part, it’s illegal in this country.

What a ridiculous thing to suggest !

I haven’t been following the news of late and it’s a genuine question

I remember at the very start of this thing it was being said that monkeypox had a fatality rate of 10% but apparently what's circulating now is some milder version

I don't think that's ever been the case, occasional outbreaks as high as 3% in Africa and I think one recorded at maybe 7%? But the sad answer there are that those were the death rates in outbreaks in areas suffering from extreme poverty/malnutrition, where any disease will unfortunately have a much higher death toll, especially for the very young/old.

The general "healthy population" death rate has always been <1% for this one.

MTVN 25-05-2022 06:37 PM

Found one article that mentions it but yeah they make it very clear that's not representative

Quote:

Monkeypox may also be less deadly than is frequently claimed. The oft-cited fatality rate of about 10 percent applies to a strain that infected people in the Congo Basin. The West African strain, which several of the current cases have been linked to, has a fatality rate closer to 1 percent—and that’s in poor, rural populations. “We haven’t seen fatalities in people who’ve had monkeypox in high-resource settings,” Rimoin said.
