Eurovision Song Contest: Dutch contestant Joost Klein disqualified

The Dutch artist Joost Klein has been disqualified from the Eurovision Song Contest after a backstage incident.

The performer has been sent home after an allegation of intimidation was made to Swedish police by a female member of the production crew.

In a statement, the contest organisers said "it would not be appropriate for him to continue in the contest" while the legal process takes place.

Klein had been among the favourites to win with his song, Europapa.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.

That's a shame. I was looking forward to it.

[Eurovision Dutch contender Joost Klein
has been axed from the contest after
being quizzed by police over an incident
involving 'a female member of the
production crew'.

Entering with the song Europapa, a tribute
to his late parents,
the 26-year-old Dutch rapper and singer
had qualified for the grand final on
Thursday evening at the Malmo Arena
venue in Sweden but will no longer be
allowed to compete.

His participation was already in doubt
after he failed to perform at two dress
rehearsals on Friday,
with Swedish police later announcing
it was investigating the singer following
a complaint made by 'a female member
of the production crew'
over an incident after his
semi-final performance.]

i apologize for having blamed Israel for our DQ

what Joost did was wrong, either verbal or physical, not sure yet which one of assault

2025 we should withdraw for one year maybe, shame i cannot vote then (or as part of RoW i can though but tbh my votes never help that much anyway)

Good Luck to all 25 finalists tonight then, i think Israel could win, but i also think Croatia can win, more exciting who will win the jury voting, i think France with Latvia as a strong outsider

The journalist (Callum Rowe)
speaking said it is possible.

arista 11-05-2024 01:16 PM

He also said he is not sure
if the Dutch will broadcast it, now?

arista 11-05-2024 01:19 PM

Around 6 Hours
or them to sort out this mess.

Nicky91 11-05-2024 01:24 PM

and this is within the rules how exactly

filming without permission is forbidden if i can remember correctly, like everywhere?

we have to broadcast it

arista 11-05-2024 01:25 PM

Because BBCnewsHD now goes out to the World
and the UK

They put it starts at 19:00 hours that this event starts

Nicky91 11-05-2024 01:28 PM

filming without permission is literally spying on your competition

but this is seen through the fingers by the hypocrite EBU

what a bunch of morons in charge at the EBU, after this years contest, we need a change of leadership pls, stricter leadership, a real no-politics policy regardless of big sponsor deals

I assume he heard from some
from the Broadcaster
who are angry, at this time.

But it would be strange if your broadcaster did pull out.

our broadcaster did nothing wrong

Joost himself did

we are also still allowed to vote honestly, so this is more like we being the unofficial 26th place with a DQ result

Of Course

Crimson Dynamo 11-05-2024 01:33 PM

No way should people in Holland be able to vote now

Nicky91 11-05-2024 01:37 PM

Israel fully well know the EBU lack a backbone, scared to come across as antisemitic, so they are provoking others now

YUK

Netherlands, Ireland, Greece, Switzerland, Norway among those who got filmed without permission by members of the israeli delegation

bore off LT, we did nothing wrong, Joost did

its already horrible enough for us currently

this is where the whole happy clappy vibe of eurovision collapses in a heap. I wouldnt be surprised if the live event gets cancelled

what all could've been prevented if only EBU had more backbone against Israel

if filming without permission isn't reason enough for a dq, more than Joost's rule break which was hardly a thing, our commentator Cornald Maas said in a NOS interview, we will hear more about that later on

but filming without permission, and filming in general in the venue is prohibited during rehearsals

so yeah double standards once again from the EBU, easy to punish Netherlands without coming across as the bad guy, but easier to protect israel and not coming across as antisemitic
