Corrie gets new boozer after 50 years
Thu Jul 30 10:52AM by TV Editor The Rovers Return is to get a rival for the first time in almost 50 years. The fictional boozer has gone unchallenged since Corrie launched back in 1960, however, this autumn will see a new bar open on the same street for the first time, reports The Sun. Peter Barlow is behind the venture, which aims to lure the more discerning drinker with upmarket food and a cellar full of quality wine. The bookie asks on-off girlfriend Leanne to help him run the business and even plans to sell off his betting shop to raise money for the bar. However, not everyone thinks it's a good idea for recovering alcoholic Peter to open a boozer and the storyline will see him clash with his father Ken over the new venture. A Coronation Street insider told the paper: "Peter wants his venture to be a flash eatery that will be Weatherfield's 'place to be'." We're assuming that means there'll be no place for Betty and her hot pots in this bar. What do you think of this latest storyline? Does Corrie need a bit of a shake-up as it approaches its 50th anniversary? Let us know... http://uk.tv.yahoo.com/blog/article/231246/ |

David Platt's luck is about to change as he gets himself a gorgeous new girlfriend. Corrie bosses have cast actress Kirsty-Leigh Porter to play David’s new girlfriend Zoe. Kirsty-Leigh has previously appeared in shows such as The Street, Doctors and Ashes to Ashes. On winning the role of Zoe, Kirsty-Leigh told us: “I’m absolutely delighted, me and my family have been lifelong Corrie fans and if possible, I think my mum is even more excited than I am! I can’t wait to start working with Jack (Jack P Shepherd) and the rest of the cast.” David will meet Zoe after he washes her hair in the salon and invites her to attend Tina and Jason’s housewarming party with him. How will Tina react to David turning up with a new woman in tow? It could certainly be a test of her true feelings towards her ex-boyfriend. Kirsty-Leigh will begin filming on Wednesday 29 July. |

I started to watch Corrie this week after a year of not watching it and it is amazing. :cheer:
Chesney is being a right brat! He used to be so nice, Poor Fiz. I like David when he is Evil so it is perfect now. That Joe is pointless and It is so funny how Jason is on a gay football team and he doesn't know. |
Joe is leaving later this year :P I admit David is okay at the mo too :D

Coronation Street's Tony Gordon will ironically ask for Maria Connor's hand in marriage on the first anniversary of her husband Liam's death.
As the pair visit Liam's graveside, Tony - who had Liam (Rob-James Collier) killed in a hit-and-run last year after discovering his affair with his wife Carla (Alison King) - removes his wedding band, before professing his love to new mum Maria. According to The Sun, he says: "You and the baby are everything I'll ever want for the rest of my life. Marry me, Maria! I want you to be my wife and I want baby Liam to be my son." Maria - played by 27-year-old Samia Smith - excitedly accepts his proposal, exclaiming: "Yes, yes, of course! Of course I will. Oh Tony, I love you so much." Before returning to the Street, Maria says her final words to Liam: "You know I'll always remember you, Liam and I'll never forget what we shared together. But I know you'd want me to be happy." She adds: "So sleep peacefully forever, darling because the time has come for me to let go and move on." Earlier this year, Tony (Gray O'Brien) delivered Maria's baby son Liam in a beach hut when Maria unexpectedly went into labour while taking a stroll on Southport beach. However, it is not long before Liam's parents Barry (Frank Grimes) and Helen (Dearbhla Molloy) hear the news of the engagement and Helen quickly blasts her daughter-in-law's decision, saying: "You're widowed only 12 months and here you are jumping into another man's arms! It's disgusting the way you're rubbing our noses in it - and on the day our beautiful Liam was killed. May you rot in hell!" The scenes pave the way for Alison King's comeback as Carla Gordon, who fled Weatherfield at the beginning of the year after a dramatic showdown in Underworld with husband Tony. In real life, King went on maternity leave and gave birth to her first daughter Daisy Mae with boyfriend Adam Huckett in February. Smith will also head off on maternity leave at the beginning of October following the announcement that she is expecting her first baby with husband Matt. Digi Spy |
