I think labelling the term HATERS to those who are not fans of Jedward is actually against the rules Ammi. let's play fair here. If any insults are now being offered up: they are not coming from those who aren't Jedward fans.

Something we can all agree about:

Jedward gets talked about more than any other HM on CBB. And it's not all about "get them out", it's far more varied than that.

Doesn't that say something? :)

Sorry, if I wasn't clear, I meant the Jedward haters i.e. Marmite- love them or hate them, no insults intended for members

Jedward haters is the term that's beenused to describe those how hate them.... it cant be used towards those who love them. It's pretty lame, tha's all I'm saying.

Jedward, the act is what and who are on Big Brother. Them as Jedward.

they are not on the show as John as not being part of the act Jedward, and Edward as not being part of the act Jedward.

If they want people to see the 'real individual off screen people', they shouldn't be in there as Jedward and playing up on that very role. If it's going to upset some because not everyone likes Jedward the act - this isn't the best place for them to be then. that's not meant to hurt, or be rude: it is very upfront and very honest - and is said with the very best of intention - to avoid people takign things far too much to heart.

I don't take it personally and I know it's not meant that way. As I said, I used the 'hater' term in reference to the marmite thing and see it was a bad use of words, my bad. I take offence myself to being called a hater just because I have a different view as someone else......and here I am doing the same.........................

CaudleHalbard 04-09-2011 02:37 PM

It will be interesting for sure, if we see a bit of the real John Grimes and Edward Grimes, following the egg fight incident.

Maybe they'll seem horribly............... normal. ;)

I know you aren't taking it personally... but young Joey appears to be doing so - and he shouldn't - the Joey i see on this forum is a million miles away from Jedward the act - and that is what I'm commenting on. I know you went down that route to try to assure Joey.

Not all members have been so considerate to poor Joey, only 19 and he's grey haired this last couple of weeks but he handles it brilliantly as always

He sounds Irish, HE IS Irish they said on BOTS and he uses the word Craic in every sentence - he's Irish.

Paddy was born in Manchester, he said so on MBFGW and I heard he had never been to Ireland either:conf:. His parents are obviously Irish travellers and he moved around so didn't develop a Manchester accent.

Born in England, British passport, British citizen, English Birth cert. never lived in Ireland= English.

Having grown up around Irish travellers and from coming from traveller stock myself, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt he is not Irish.

Believe it or not there is a small cultural difference between Irish travellers and English travellers, even their accent is different to ours, not by much but it is different.

Well this is gonna throw your theory to hell.... I use the word craic often too, and I'm NOT Irish.

CaudleHalbard 04-09-2011 04:02 PM

Apart from being called Paddy and using the word craic, there's nothing Irish about him. His ancestry may indeed be Irish but he himself is British.

I suppose you think all gay people are paedophiles and all black people love chicken....etc etc.

Niamh, I am actually shocked that you, a member of TiBB staff, would use such a nasty stereotype.

I don't know you and never interacted with you, but I have no problem saying that you are a DISGUSTING individual, or maybe you were just drunk when you made that post....

:laugh2:

Sorry ▲¯\_(ツ)_/¯▲; but where on earth did you ever pick that one up as stereotypical behaviour? Never heard that one in my puff.

I'm pretty sure he said, "sorry about the incident last night" or "sorry about the eggs last night" when he was in the bathroom?

The cynical side of me last night was thinking that they showed it on BBOTS so that when the series is over, if this gets mentioned, they can say they DID show it somewhere. They are well aware not many people watch BBOTS. And I dont think they want jedward shown in a light other than the cheery hyper robots that they portray them as :suspect:

However, if it did happen last night, it might and probably will be shown tonight.

CaudleHalbard 04-09-2011 04:29 PM

I suspect viewing figures may be up tonight! ;)

I actually got that from a Katt Stevens DVD I watched last week, chicken and watermelon is the stereotype apparently.

Stu 04-09-2011 04:34 PM

Are you saying not all black people love their chicken?

Come on now.

I think this is a step too far and would remind you not to make personal insults towards people on here, be they staff or members. I believe niamh just got a little over protective in her defence for the boys and probably didnt think of how much of a stereotype this was.

I do agree with the rest of your post though. If such stereotypes were made against any other minority groups there would be absolute hell on.

BB have shown both the good and bad sides to Jedward, so I do hope it's shown if it happened yesterday but the editing has been weird on a few instances for all housemates:conf:.

Really? All I have seen is them being all hyper.

I have yet to see an episode where they are just normal. This was more my point than them not showing a bad side...they want them to appear as hyperactive robots 24/7...when I very much doubt that this is the case ;)

Cat Stevens aka Yusuf Islam, former English musician from the 70's?

I've never heard that comparison before: and more than that: if it's the Cat Stevens I think you mean: he converted to a faith that is more well known within the Arab world, which is something totally different from cultures /race that the word 'Blacks' may refer to (ie: those of African descent).

Now i'm even more confused by the use of phrase!!

CaudleHalbard 04-09-2011 04:40 PM

Jerk Chicken is a West Indian dish and I suspect the association comes from that.

got to say that from what I've seen on the Jedward act: it's been the manic, shouting, screaming, running about daft, being obnoxious, being a nuisance and generally as if they've been fed on nothing but speed for the past 2 weeks.

The wedgie incident, trashing the house and using other peoples stuff without asking etc.

I don't know if the twins would have went in as just John and Edward but since Jedward is their brand from a business point of view and managed that is what C5 had booked them for because of their ability to divide opinion and annoy;).

And by God.....they are succeeding !!

Stu 04-09-2011 04:47 PM

The West Indian dish stereotype isin't where the association comes from at all. It's more of an American stereotype rooted in deep south racism that's become in recent times a kind of meme/bait/cultural joke poked fun at.

So long as it means more viewers rather than less, BB will be delighted with Jedward.

I still have a strong suspicion that Jedward are tacitly encouraged to be as manic as possible.
