Wow, TD's popularity is rapidly falling like a stone. Last year iirc he was no 1 on heat mag's sexiest male poll getting about a wopping 75% of the top 10. This year he's not even in top 5. Interestingly enough he came out about a week after the poll opened so he was very high profile in media.

He has also dropped out of other teen girl / women polls top 10 sexiest male list after being ranked 2nd in several polls the previous year. Wonder how his slide in popularity will affect his sponsorships.

Nope, in Olympic year he was about 3rd on most polls. The rest of the poll is occupied by the same usual suspects as the previous years: David Beckham, Ryan Gosling, Harry 1D, Liam Hamsworth (goes up list) and Bradley Cooper. Coming out has probably had a detrimental effect on his tween girl popularity, which is essentially where his marketing and money is. He seems very popular with gays, but the pink pound is much less significant a market.

Not necessarily the case, sadly the media, the SUN in particular love to out celebrities, it would not surprise me one bit to learn that that was likely to happen to Tom so he revealed it himself.

I think,again sadly, it is wrong that anyone feels the need to explain themselves or justify how they feel in any way as to their sexuality,however by saying all themselves they at least get the right tone put on it and don't get the rather sordid often exaggerated view of the media when they do so.

I admired Tom Daley for how he did this, he didn't have to and shouldn't have to but he got there first and full credit to him and he is as someone said above, Shaun I think it was,still young and it took courage in my view to say all he did.

Definitely for me, full credit to him and I am sure he will likely have helped others in their dilemma as to their sexuality maybe too.
Anything that helps defuse the obsession the media, (the sordid Sun in particular), has with finding out the sexuality of celebrities or others, is to me a good thing and to be commended.

Least shocking news of the decade. Sorry Tom, it's always been obvious. Let's be honest most knew ever since he minced his way with fake tan at 14 around Beijing 2008 Olympics and was really camp.

Tom did this outting deliberately. He knew last year he was going to have to go public with a same sex partner ahead of Splash2. But didn't want to alienate his female fan base - which he did, especially in US and Asia*, but he got publicity and kudos for outting himself in a new celeb way ie YouTube rather than an interview or otted by media scandal.

His sponsors didn't drop him for fear of anti-homophobic backlash but his advertising was reduced and quietly sidelined. His unfeeling "of course I like girls" throw away line in his YouTube outting was so unconvincing it was hilarious. Really dude, really?! Now that everyone has seen his older boyfriend Dustin Lance Black and got used to them strolling arm in arm , licking each others ice cream, he's come out 100% gay, almost the rest of his tween or female fan base has fallen away as no cool girl wants to be seen lusting after a gay guy. Straight blokes are taking the pi$$ out of his female fans who didn't realise he was gay and defended his imagined hetero then bi status. Those lasses that are still fans like him the way women like Graham Norton.
