Godzilla 6/10

I loved the director's movie Monsters, so I had high expectations for this, and the cast was great too, however I just didn't really enjoy it as much as I thought I would, Juliette Binoche dying so early just annoyed me. Anyway there were a couple of spectacular scenes, so it was worth watching.

Will try to see the next one before the deadlline, I don't wanna end up getting film club detention.

..St Vincent...8.5/10...

Spoiler:

..I don't know whether Bill Murray will be nominated for an Academy Award for this but I hope that he is...he is stunning and perfect as 'grumpy old' Vincent. The cast in general was perfect and very likeable..Melissa McCarthy as Maggie and Naomi Watts as Daka, the 'lady of the night'....but obviously the main focus is the relationship between Vincent and Oliver which is extremely touching...it has the perfect balance of humour and serious moments and yeah, I did cry toward the end when Oliver paid his tribute to him...ok, probably just a typical 'grumpy old man' type movie but really endearing and just very 'feel good'...

Spoiler:

This was a wonderful film and loved watching it. The cast was perfect, I thought Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy and Naomi Watts were brilliant. The little boy was lovely and liked him with Bill Murray. Funny in parts and a sweet ending.

8/10

Tom4784 04-12-2014 05:34 PM

I'll watch this tomorrow I think.

Shaun 04-12-2014 05:51 PM

I'll try and give it a watch tonight

edit: scrap that, am knackered. weekend job it is.

Niamh. 04-12-2014 07:17 PM

I'm going to watch it tomorrow night

Shaun 05-12-2014 10:15 AM

9/10.

Spoiler:

In a way it's really on par with Boyhood...

I mean the structure's pretty predictable... unlikely friendship, grumpy man we don't know really well, suddenly good friends, great highs winning that bet and a fight, sudden crash to earth, realisation of Vin's wife's condition, boy's mom in all sorts of trouble, fallout of the main characters, and then slow but sure return to happy ending

But the performances were really fantastic, I hope Murray is Oscar-nominated for this, at the very least. I was happy to see McCarthy in a role other than her typecast (loud obnoxious messy woman) and she was really great in this, and the kid's one of those rare, likeable, not-annoying child actors  Also loved Daka's character.

And the story was really sweet. Will definitely be buying this on DVD/bluray when it's out, it was just naturally affecting and made me laugh/tearful in equal measure

St Vincent

Spoiler:

aw I loved this film, great cast, love Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy and Chris O'Dowd and Naomi Watts character was really funny too, my favourite in the film actually. It was sad, funny and heart warming in all the right amounts. Loved it 9/10

Tom4784 06-12-2014 03:40 PM

9/10

Just a really solid film, well acted by all and just very entertaining despite the cliche set up.

St. Vincent - 7/10

I hadn't really been expecting this to be so funny, Bill Murray's character was hilarious. So many great performances as well from pretty much the entire main cast, I think Naomi Watts' was my favourite though, wouldn't have even known it was her if I hadn't seen her name on the IMDb cast list. I think my favourite scene was just after he had the stroke and they were showing him the pictures and he was supposed to say the words, and the picture was of a tree and he said "money", and then the next one was of a fence and he said "you broke my fence too". Have got a feeling this will get overlooked when the Oscars come around but hopefully it doesn't.

MTVN 07-12-2014 03:26 PM

Anyone got a good link for it?

Locke. 07-12-2014 03:31 PM

St Vincent gets a rating of 8.24 based on 8 reviews.

This was bloody marvelous. Bill Murray was spectacular in the role and it had a charming feel. Naomi Watts was in it as well and I pretty much love everything she does, what a goddess.

Didn't think it was that laugh out loud funny but pretty humorous throughout the whole thing, good feel good film with a nice story though fairly predictable and didn't feel that original. Naomi Watt's character must have been the best female character I've seen in a comedy for ages

Looks like people are starting to lose interest now so I think it's time to pull out the christmas flms.

Niamh came up on the randomizer too, so her choice

St Vincent - 6.5 I will do a review when i'm not tired, work was a killer

Niamh. 08-12-2014 08:50 AM

Calvary

Spoiler:

It was a very strange film, the whole way through I kept thinking it was like reading one of the religion threads in Serious debates. It was an ok film, the performances were very good I thought but the story itself was a bit flimsy. I'll give it 6.5/10

Ammi 08-12-2014 02:27 PM

..Calvary...

Spoiler:

..wow, I don't know what to say about this movie/definitely not a feel good movie...it was so bleak with Father James as the only 'light' really in a town where there was no faith, not specifically in the church/religion but more there didn't seem to be any faith in anything/each other/the community/humanity...his daughter who (I think) had obviously tried to commit suicide or had suicidal thoughts, obviously the 'mystery' character who had been sexually abused through his childhood by a priest and his wife who seemed to have no self worth/the local landowner who had everything but cared for nothing, not even himself..the old guy whose priority was to ensure that he could end his life when the time was right and the guy who owned the bar who seemed to have a huge resentment and hate toward the church...oh and the lady whose husband was killed...and Father James seemed to be losing himself in the lack of hope in others and yet still his only focus in his 'last week' was to try to 'heal his flock'..to do the best he could to help with their hollow lives...just a 'good priest' and a good man...even though the ending was predicted in the first few minutes, I still found it quite shocking and I didn't quite get when his daughter went to visit him in prison..was that a 'forgiveness thing'...anyway, even though it was such a bleak movie/the characters were so 'real' and so absorbing that I was totally spellbound by it and Brendan Gleeson was superb as always so I'm going to give it an 8/10...

LukeB 13-12-2014 06:38 PM

MTVN 13-12-2014 06:40 PM

Niamh. 13-12-2014 06:52 PM

:hmph:

Shaun 13-12-2014 07:17 PM

I'll watch it tomorrow if I find the time :worry: I have downloaded it

Niamh. 13-12-2014 07:21 PM

anyone who doesn't watch it is getting perma banned for being racist :idc:

Tom4784 13-12-2014 08:08 PM

It was an excellent film, I thought the casting and writing was very strong and it was very atypical. It's depressing and grim but I think the subject matter is handled well. I don't really want to go into plot details otherwise I'd spoil it but I think it's well worth a watch.

8/10

Black Dagger 14-12-2014 01:45 AM

omg i forgot, i will watch this tomorrow and bulk up the reviews a bit so it doesn't yet die a painful death </3

LukeB 15-12-2014 01:00 AM

Right, now Christmas is over I'll get around to watching this tonight :ninja2:

LukeB 29-12-2014 04:10 PM

Black Dagger 29-12-2014 05:06 PM
