Watched episode 9 and was entertained but confused.
Won't put it in spoilers because it's not a spoiler lol just a theory, or maybe it is a spoiler idk, but I assume one of Logan and William goes on to be the man in black? Right now my money would be on William since dolores keeps looking at TMIB with a deep recognition. Bernard </3 I don't really buy into the elsie=alive theories but it'd be a really pleasant surprise to see they aren't just tossing aside any and every minor female character WHILE LETTING BLOODY LOGAN LIVE |
And I agree with your idea about ford and the self aware hosts with Wyatt. My guess is he's going to be posited as an extremely nihilist villain who some how unleashes the hosts on the real world but I'M not sure how they'd execute that in scope. It'd be a very tired trope as well; man hates world wants to destroy it. Especially since little seems to be revealed about Ford's past yet.
And I'm not here for Maeve's rebellion story taking a back burner. But then I guess her overthrowing her masters and gaining freedom before the end of season 2 would be rather premature |
For what it's worth, I can't see Logan surviving the finale. I think William (who I'm sure is the Man in Black) will kill him and doing so will be a major push down the rabbit hole to becoming MiB.
|
Something I'm confused about: Dolores and Teddy keep having flashbacks to the Escalante massacre, which is seemingly connected to Wyatt. Wyatt was only added to the narrative recently by Ford but Dolores had flashbacks to the massacre while with William (which we know is happening years ago) so I assume this massacre was an actual event years ago rather than just newly added false memories? I guess this Wyatt thing has been in play the whole time but it's only now that Ford is kicking whatever his plan is into motion.
Also, it's interesting that when Dolores descended down into the underground facility, it was all disheveled and abandoned (as opposed to how it looked in the flashback). I wonder why there were "dead" Hosts strewn all over. |
Great episode, my favourite so far. I'm not ready for this to end.
Bernard :( Spoiler: |
I don't think it's the end of Bernard, a shot to the head is nothing to a Host in the long run
Spoiler: (that's not a full on spoiler but it's do to with the finale trailer) |
Spoiler: |
I'm tempted to watch this later in the week rather than asap on Monday like I have been all season because I don't want it to be over so soon, but I don't think I have the willpower  :worry:
|
Final Episode was Amazing I can not wait for Season 2!!

watched it last night, i was so glad I didn't read anymore theories, William being the old crazy guy was a shock which was great. Great finale such a shame we have to wait so long for season 2 though

Also they did well with getting some William = MiB believers off the scent for a while, after believing it for a while I then abandoned the idea for a bit when I became convinced there was only one timeframe so it couldn't possibly be true, and then when the multiple timeframes was seemingly confirmed last week I was back on board. So yeah, some really effective misleading editing work there :spin: I wouldn't have even considered the stories taking place at different points in time until episode 9 when Logan revealed the picture if I hadn't read the theories that brought my attention to little things like the Westworld logo being different etc so yeah, I definitely think some people who stay away from theories wouldn't have seen certain reveals coming, especially since they did such a good job of even making those who had read the theories second guess themselves  I actually recall one scene earlier in the season when, right after a Dolores / William scene we went to a scene in the control centre with Stubbs and another employee talking about Dolores going off her loop. It seemed clear that they were referring to what we'd just been watching but they never actually specified that she was with a guest and clearly now we know they were following her while she was alone in the present day. It's the stuff like this that really make me want to rewatch now we know so much. Ford has to be one of my favourite fictional characters ever. Him working to free the Hosts all along was a brilliant twist that I didn't anticipate (and his whole arc was so compelling, his initial ambiguous nature before being presented as seemingly pure evil only to be revealed as an anti-hero at the end ). That final scene with Dolores shooting into the crowd while the cold storage hosts emerge from the forest was so good (and Clementine being out, with a gun nonetheless) And I still believe Elsie and Stubbs are alive :smug: |
The finale got the highest ratings of the season :clap1:
|
Where are they going to go for season 2 though I wonder?

Re Season two, I don't know how they're going to make a fresh story really, surely the only thing they'll get away with is them escaping to the real world? |
I like cliffhangers but not if they're used in place of refusing to answer questions they've been posing all season. I'd say Westworld ended on a cliffhanger of sorts with Dolores shooting everyone and the other Hosts arriving from the woods but it was a cliffhanger that was to lead into the new era of the story rather than to postpone the current mysteries. Like, if it ended just as we were about to discover what the maze was, that would have been ridiculous
|
It's interesting that they seemingly confirmed the existence of other themed areas with the samurais. For now I'm gonna assume that, and any other potential areas of the park, were added by the money-hungry Delos board rather than Ford himself.
|
Oh I had forgotten about the samurais actually and Felix seemed kind of sketchy about them too, they must play a part in the next season for sure
|
Felix
Oh I forgot to mention, Armistice in this episode :worship: Have you seen the post-credits scene? |

Can we just appreciate the look on William's face as Dolores went full Wyatt on him? :laugh2:
https://68.media.tumblr.com/31acf198...wxnko5_250.gif It was a brilliant callback to the premiere too. There were a few moments that were sort of bookends to earlier episodes actually, something else I loved about the finale. |
I'm in two minds about the finale. Love the Ford/takeover stuff and how that's working out, because it's actually interesting.
BORED TO ****ING TEARS over the William/MIB/Dolores stuff, though. That reveal was so tedious. And the purpose of it was what? Build up the Hosts as believing they're gods. So basically season 2 will be the AIs taking over. Which hasn't at all been done to death in popular culture :idc: Idk I just really wanted to watch a compelling drama with storylines that actually went somewhere and made sense, instead the whole season's effectively been another "mankind is horrible!1!" rant from JJ Abrams. I'm sure it's made sense to some who've analysed every other scene for the tiniest of clues, but I refuse to believe anyone actually believes the William presented in episodes 1-8 just happened to turn out to be a bit of a nasty shit tbh :( there's more fantasy in that being a legitimate character arc presented by the show than in any of its premise. Outcome was fun enough... but I just don't really have any motivation to bother with season 2. |
also I lowkey wanted the fridge scene to play out as a comedy with Maeve walking up to random offline hosts and being like REMEMBER HIM, RODRIGO SANTORO? :) HE USED TO RUN THE PET STORE, WEREN'T HE LOVELY XXX

This is supposed to be a nice thread and you're ruining it! http://i.imgur.com/PH3vKnw.jpg
But seriously, I have no issue in believing William became the Man in Black tbh, a lot can change in a person in 30 years. That said, I do think his shift into slaughtering Hosts in the flashbacks was a little fast but it didn't bother me that much since at that point he still hadn't fully gone off the deep end, I can buy that he shed more and more parts of his moral compass over the years. I'm also here for the Hosts taking over, it was always gonna become an aspect of the show what with the premise of the movie. But I don't for a second think it's going to be as clean-cut in the show, from the look on Teddy's face when Dolores was killing everyone I don't think he'll be fully on board and that could very well be the case with some other Hosts too. (And I don't entirely disagree with Ford's assessment of humanity ) I trust the show won't go down the cliche route because of Jonathan Nolan, he explored both malevolent and benevolent AI in Person of Interest so I think (and hope) Westworld does the same. Also, if it's true that they've had like 5 seasons mapped out and they're getting to the Hosts fighting back at the end of season 1, they definitely don't have 4 seasons of simply "robots kill people" in mind  The only aspect of the show I flat-out don't like is Sizemore still being around. We lost Theresa and Ford but he stays around being his usual pointless, irritating self :idc: |
Evan and Thandie won for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively at the Critics Choice Awards last night :clap1:

I do agree but I guess Dolores is the central protagonist and to be fair if they were both nominated in the same category they couldn't both win so I'm fine with it
|
I suppose, thandie is so much better though imo
|
I think they've both been amazing tbh.
Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey were both nominated as supporting actresses for GoT too so I wouldn't put too much stock in that classification  |
Yeah Evan's clearly the lead really. Maeve getting noms would be like William/TMIB/Bernard/Ford getting noms.
|
Love the bonus clip
after the end Credits . I wonder how many Deleted it? without leaving it on to hear that lady say extra clip after the Credits end |

Armistice :clap1: |
So I never realised the song during the climax of the finale was Exit Music (For a Film) which is brilliantly fitting considering Jonathan Nolan also used it for the climax of Person of Interest's season 3 finale when
Spoiler: |
Best show of the year. Confirmed.
Anthony Hopkins is so good. Only storyline I found boring was the super naive story and how stupid everyone was in handling her, but when it was proven that Ford was manipulating it the whole time then that was saved. |

I've been watching this over the past few weeks and I absolutely loved it. Such an intriguing, albeit confusing show but I guess that's one of the things that made it so good. Maeve
Fantastic finale too. :clap1: I'll be waitin for ya luv @ Season 2 |
