As a man can I go to Russell Square tomorrow for the vigil or is it women only. Don’t want to scare anyone

Good.

Awful tragedy this, really sick.

He joined the police in 2018 at age 45 :conf:

He has sustained another head injury in his cell, looks like he is trying to kill himself

A vigil for Sarah Everard in Clapham this evening has been cancelled following discussions with police.

Reclaim These Streets tweeted: "We are sorry to confirm that our Clapham vigil scheduled for tonight is cancelled. Please see the full statement here.

"Instead, we are fundraising £320,000 for women's causes: £10K for every proposed fine for the 32 vigils originally scheduled."

In the statement they said: "We have been very disappointed that given the many opportunities to engage with organisers constructively, the Metropolitan Police have been unwilling to commit to anything.

"It remains our view that with the appropriate mutually agreed measures in place, this evening's vigil on Clapham Common would have been safe and in line with restrictions and safety regulations."

Instead of tonight's event, organisers said that a virtual gathering would be arranged.

The right call. Sarah family should be involved in any organised vigil and its hard to think they are anywhere near doing that at the moment

bots 13-03-2021 09:00 AM

i would have more sympathy for the vigil if it were not being organised by a bunch of activists with an alternative agenda

Yes.

Mystic Mock 13-03-2021 10:22 AM

Sad news, RIP and my condolences to her family.

I would love to know why a Police Officer was allegedly going around kidnapping and murdering an innocent civilian though, and why did he pick Sarah?

Blimey that's grim,I did wonder why they were looking at 'remains'after such a short time, he has obviously tried to make identification hard.

It’s live on Sky now !

Hoards of people ignore the law / rules .

I’d severely punish the organisers of this ... I’m sure they’ll claim that ‘everyone just happened to turn up on the night’ but the truth will soon leak out ..

I dread to think how many Covid deaths will come from all these people mixing so closely together.

What’s the infection rate in that area ??

Looks like 99% of them are wearing masks! So probably not many

To be fair the majority were/are are wearing masks but it’s shown hundreds who aren’t ... plus many pull them down when they’re talking to someone else ..

I’d still be intrigued how tonight effects the infection rate over the next week or so ...

Rest assured if it does appear to have had a negative effect on the numbers there will be a hell of a fuss made ..

Yes its true but emotions are running very high ~ women quite rightly are sick of it ~ for this to be an armed copper ( trying to bash his own head in it seems at every opportunity) this has brought to the fore so many things women have been raged about for so many years.

bots 13-03-2021 10:27 PM

people haven't been allowed to attend loved ones funerals, so i can't condone a mass gathering like this. However, reports seem to suggest that police were way to heavy handed in dispersing people and given it was a policeman who murdered the woman, it all looks really bad

Yes, I hold mixed views on it too.
I agree with you, it looks unnecessarily bad.
